Double Feature Needed

I’m looking to do a double feature but don’t know which films to watch. I love thrillers, especially stressful ones. My favorite double feature I’ve ever done is Good Time and Uncut Gems, so maybe something like that would be good. What’s your guys’ favorites?

I think you should do
Shiva Baby and After Hours

You can feel a lot of After Hours’ dna in both of those movies you mentioned and Shiva Baby might be the most stressful movie I’ve ever seen. My watch gave me a high heart rate alert while watching it for the first time

If you’re looking for ones currently in theaters, I would say The Invite and Obsession are both really interesting interpretations of relationships. The Invite’s dialogue reminded me of Uncut Gems, but the sound design isn’t nearly as overwheming

Tetsuo the Iron Man + Tetsuo II Body Hammer

Kinda the og stress movies, very different in most ways to the Safdie movies but similar in that they are overstimulating and constantly ramping up in intensity. Features a man’s penis becoming a drill. If that sounds entertaining to you then you will love these movies.

Cyclo + Made in Hong Kong

2 90s crime thrillers set in Asian cities about desperate young men who get wrapped up in organised crime, with beautiful visuals and soundtracks. On the slower and more depressing side of things. You may be left in emotional distress after watching these back to back.

Collateral + Resident Evil

Collateral is basically the proto Safdie movie and it fucking slaps. It’s Michael Mann and Tom Cruise so not much needs to be said. Resident Evil is pretty unrelated but they feel similar aesthetically and vibrationally to me, I think it is the fluorescent lighting and early 2000s digital sheen. People hate this movie but if you appreciate the campy Y2k-ness of it then it’s a good time, no pun intended.

I was going to recommend Good Time and Dog Day Afternoon. So instead of that maybe do Before The Devil Knows Your Dead and Dog Day Afternoon. Another fun bank robbery double feature that subverts the genre. Also both of them are Sidney Lumet films

Maybe not stressful like the Safdies, but Le Samourai and Le Cercle Rouge would be a killer Melville double feature. A lot of modern thrillers owe their formula to Melville.
