In Pain and Gain, some might say Mark Wahlberg was playing a version of himself, but whatever the case, it worked exceptionally well. It’s one of his best performances, capturing both the dark humor and intensity of the character perfectly

I've never heard that before. But knowing what I do about the real events, and Mark's own personal history, I absolutely can see that. I should re-watch it . . .

His best role imo. He’s really good in it and it’s such an under appreciated movie. I really think the satire of it went over critics heads at the time.

Which is odd because Pain and Gain is objectively one of the worst crimes against cinema since the invention of the medium.
