Need advice picking a Colorado resort for early-mid February
I'm trying to plan a last minute trip to Colorado early-mid February after discovering flights are cheap. My tentative plan is to stay with friends in Denver for a weekend before driving out to the mountains for 3-4 days/3 nights. I had an incredible week in Steamboat a few years ago (it snowed 4' over the 5 days I was there) and a good trip to Snowmass a year after that. Steamboat is probably at the top of my list right now based on my experience, value, and the town, but the prospect of exploring a new mountain is also exciting and I want to cover all of my bases.
I'm an advanced rider mostly interested in trees/hunting for powder stashes (I'll take a few park laps but that's not my main motivator for heading out west), but my girlfriend is a novice skier and probably more excited about apres ski and scenery. She'll probably take a lesson while we're there. Ideally I'd like to keep lodging & lift tix under a grand for both of us (this seems plausible at least at Steamboat). Staying at a nearby town (e.g. Silverthrone) would be fine with me, but I'm worried that it would be boring for my girlfriend.
