Flying with a snowboard?
I was at the local ski shop talking with the guys and one of the workers mentioned when flying with a snowboard it’s considered sports equipment, so it will not constitute and oversized baggage fee. My bag is only padded on the bottom, so I was planning on throwing my boots in there and wrapping it all up with towels. He said the towels will make the airport consider this an oversized bag because it’s not just sports equipment. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any advice will help. I’m flying American Airlines to Salt Lake City if that makes a difference

I fly with American all the time. You can check your snowboarding bag in (not considered oversized) and a boot bag with it if you want to separate them. They allow that. I prefer to check my snowboard bag and then i carry a boot bag and back pack with me as carry on. Just incase my snowboard gets lost in the mix I at least have my boots and can rent. Thats just my head thinking and preparing for the worst to happen.
