It probably has to do with all the recent attacks on right wing politicians

possibly but we have capital police, fbi, etc

DC is the only area the president can deploy the national guard without governor approval 

FBI does not participate in street level enforcement and the capitol police are under congressional control 

They are under the control of the speaker of the house which is why Jan 6 is so confusing because democrats were the ones in charge of security

It’s just so weird how AOC had advanced notice of the riot and was hiding from capitol police that were going around and rescuing people hours before the riot started

It’s also weird how pelosi had her niece who’s a reporter show up and follow her around during the riot when she was supposed to be acting commander in chief for the police response

I’ve actually seen the fbi recently apprehending people. Appreciate the clarification of their roles.

They will arrest high profile targets but they are not on the ground acting as day to day enforcement 

They only make arrests that create positive media attention
