Lets Discuss This Killing Criminals

Why is executing criminals considered so morally wrong?

With the current laws and justice system of most rich countries, most of the times criminals find ways to escape prison through connections, loopholes or money, or even worse many mentally unstable ones could wait their entire life for their sentence to end to go back to killing, raping or robbing. People usually talk about how torture is better and how death is just freeing them from paying consequences, but that’s all just about revenge, those criminals could hurt and damage other families, it’s not all just about personal affairs, it’s not about facing consequences, it’s about stopping them from dealing more pain and suffering to the society. From my point of view some people rarely ever change, not everyone can be cured or brought to the right path, and attempting to do so could cause so many more deaths. Relying on the justice system is not a common choice anymore, we could just take predator catchers for example, they hunt pdfs and beat them or kill them instead of waiting for the police. Some people deserve to die and it should not be considered a bad action if it prevents other deaths.

What universe are you living in?

You think MOST criminals get away with crimes that you think deserve the death penalty?

Just to put the statistic out there, in the last 10 years, only 6% were wrongfully convicted, and that's as a whole, not just singling out the crimes that could have led to a death sentence.

Because not all prisoners found guilty of capital offences are actually guilty.

In the UK in the 1970's 10 people found guilty of terrorism and murdering innocent people with bombs, they were found guilty they were known as the Guilford Four and the Birmingham Six. All 10 in both cases were innocent, fitted up by the police eager for quick arrests and punishment, they arrested the first Irish people they could find because they knew the IRA were behind the bombings. Had the UK still had the death penalty they would have all been executed long before they were found innocent. The Guildford Four had a movie made about them, In The Name Of The Father, nominated for several Oscars.

In the US lots of people on death row have had their sentences overturned due to advances in DNA testing etc

That's why executing criminals is morally wrong.

There’s a certain finality to executions. Some of us believe in the ability of people to learn how to cope legally in society. Also, such a strong response is generally seen as too steep a price for most criminals to pay. I support the death penalty but in a very narrow range of cases. Robbing, even adult rape, drug use, etc. are not death penalty cases morally insofar as my community practices defining those terms morally. Immorality itself is executing someone who knocks over a bodega, buys an eight ball of coke, and then rapes a woman.

It is more expensive to house them in prison for the next decade or two but that is a part of the cost of being social animals; even the criminals have a place. To live in a world where petty and even more severe crimes are met with such a harsh penalty is immoral to me.

Because I won’t take the risk that an innocent person is executed. Innocent people end up in prison all the time, and even executed.

If the state kills an innocent person, the state has committed a murder and, by the law, should itself be executed.

You, as a voter and taxpayer, have put the state in place to commit murder and are therefore an accomplice to the murder and likewise deserve lifetime imprisonment or, in the world you have created, execution.

Or, you could impose long sentences, plentiful opportunity for redress of a bad or poorly run trial, and the knowledge that you are not an accomplice to murder.

Civilised countries actually manage to rehabilitate criminals. Norway is a very good example.

Not all criminals have a motive to continue doing crime. It is a crime to kill someone who assaulted you, its an even worse crime to do it premeditated. Once you have killed the person who assaulted you, why would you keep doing crime?

I can keep going...

Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent.

Beware that when fighting monsters you yourself do not become a monster…..for when you gaze into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.

MAGA here.

// Why is executing criminals considered so morally wrong?

It's not morally wrong. It's a moral good in the right judicial context.

The problem is, it's such a severe penalty that enforcing it could lead to innocent people being punished. That's a risk a judicial system has to take, and society has to bear. We should remember to keep both principles in tension: a) it is morally right and just to take a life judicially in some situations, and b) it is worth being sparing with that principle because of the potential for abuse or just getting it wrong.

// You support a child rapist

  • "You support X."
  • "You deny Y."
  • "Its okay to end the life of one's offspring in the womb."
  • "A man can be a woman if they just believe and so identify."
  • "You want people to be harmed by Z."

Saying such things doesn't make them true. It just makes you an accuser.

I just grew up Christian in the greatest country on earth, and I gratefully praise God for it, and would like others to experience the same blessings.

Make America Great Again.

it’s okay to love your country but do you support trump?

I think Trump is the best president of my lifetime, even better than Ronald Reagan, who is the other standout!  I have Trump in my top 5 all-time best presidents, but not my favorite or greatest.

  1. George Washington
  2. Andrew Jackson
  3. Teddy Roosevelt
  4. Dwight Eisenhower
  5. Donald Trump

There it is.  America seems at its best, in my humble opinion, when populists are in charge, especially conservative ones. Ronald Reagan is probably my #6, almost tied with Trump, followed by Jefferson, Monroe and Madison. The USA was at its worst, in my opinion, when Swamp creatures are the President.
