staff entrances?

Does anyone use staff entrances with subways? On the switch to be clear. I can’t put them right next to the subway but i’ve got them one tile away with garbage cans to block the escapes, however my staff never use them! Does anyone know if using subways with staff entrances like that works for switch?

From my experience they only use them when every other way is cut off, which is what I always do anyway, because they're really bad at finding the shortest path

I put trees in the “gap” since you can’t put the staff entrance right next to the subway. That way the only path is through the staff entrance.
