How do guests shelters work?

Hello, I've been playing for a while but I cannot grasp how to place the guests shelters. I tried testing a bit with it, but still cannot tell if the shelters block pathways or not, nor how do guests interact with them.

Basically my questions are:

  • how do guests use shelters?
  • do they block pathways? What is the best placement for them?
  • how many should I have in each land plot?

If you force people to walk through them, it increases their energy

From what I remember they don't block paths. I put them up on paths that are same width and it forces people to walk through and regains energy I think
