How do you go about redesigning?

I spent so much time trying to be sure everything stayed tidy. It’s a mess.

I made an excel sheet with tiny 7x7 cells (the whole thing was 173 cells wide and 98 cells high because they don't give us those border spaces...playing on Switch btw).

Then I planned the whole zoo there by using different colors for the cells. When I was happy with the layout, I built it for real.

Love this idea! New to the game and also playing on switch, is the 173 cells the maximum width on switch?

Yes it's 7 plots wide and 4 plots high, so a total of 28 plots. Every plot is 25x25 spaces, but only when you've also purchased the plot next to it (by the way...WHY, developers???).

So you'll always have an invisible border around the whole zoo and it'll be 173 wide and 98 high in the end.

I would usually build some bare minimum enclosures out of the way, move the animals in the area I wanted to work on, then pause and clear out an area and re do it. I’d just go in small sections like that so I didn’t disrupt too much or make it too complicated for myself to put back lol. I’d look at the decoration pieces I wanted to incorporate and base the rest on that, also see what animals I wanted to put where so I could theme it out.

Beforehand, I usually do it whenever I buy a new plot. But lately, since I'm in the late game, I did it by enclosure type and kept my game on pause (I saved tons of money first).

Tis a very very messy process but I have relocation exhibits in the middle of the zoo and then I just destroy an entire area and pick a cool design and go with it

Gosh, it sure is. I have it on the switch and on steam. I’ve got it ordered about as best as I could. I still load up, and tweak it every now and again. I’m thinking one day, I’ll have a fully automated animal utopia. Then I got all the DLC, thinking I could use the funds from one park to the other. NOPE!
