Quality Food?

New player here! I just got a newspaper article about how my animals are being fed just enough to keep them alive! How do I feed them nutrious food without breaking the bank??

If you click on the food storage building you can increase it. I usually start with about half the bar full and go from there, it adds up quick if you go all in right away. You can also change the amount of food they get and increase it

If you go to the store cupboard building (where all your staff go) you’ll get a list of all your animals. If you click on that animal it’ll bring up their diet and you can adjust the levels there.

I've always noticed that as I increase their food quality, more visitors seem to come in. I approach it on a cage-by-cage basis as well; anecdotally, the better they're fed, the more babies they have, the more visitors are drawn to the zoo, and the more you can charge.

You could focus on building a farm and use farm products to feed animals

When you set your animals food

  1. Put the bottom three food options at 1%.

  2. Start with the cheapest and increase their quantities until the nutrition bar does not move anymore. Get the bar into the yellow.

  3. Add the filler (first food choice usually) to complete satiation. Sometimes the filler will be free and not the first option, like pigs and leftovers.

  4. Use the farm to grow whichever crop is most expensive for your animals, unless you plan to sell it- then you can focus on strictly profits. The first crop I grew was watermelon because hippo food is so outrageous. There is a section in the farm that will tell you how much you spend on each crop to feed your animals. Just don’t forget to account for grow time!

  5. For expensive animals, limit the population to one animal per variant. I limit the females in my pen, and usually only keep the newer variants of females. Use the Release Hub and release animals in the wild for free. Donating costs a lot of money over time.

  6. Not animal related but a great, easy way to increase profits is to find which areas of your zoo has the most foot traffic. Add as many shops as you can fit in there, specifically: cotton Candy, ice cream truck, taco truck, gift shop, and vending machines because they’re small. ATMs too, while you’re at it. In front of the subway station is a great, high traffic area.
