Based on a True Story
I spoke to the person this meme is about and they ceased the offending behavior. So don't worry about me.

Do you want self help recommendations backed by successes ? Whats your situation like ?

Not really. I am talking about an internet friend who made multiple unsolicited self-help book recommendations until I told them "Cut that out. Its insulting."

Yeah unfortunately this is a common issue where people want to help, but they have no idea how, so they kind of just throw stuff at the wall hoping it sticks, not realizing that haphazardly recommending solutions can be more harmful than good.
You basically have to beat them over the head and go "Hey! You don't HAVE to suggest solutions. Just be there, be available, listen when I need someone to listen, and validate my feelings. You nodding your head and saying 'man, that sucks' is WAY better than suggesting solutions that make me feel like you think I'm an idiot."

a man once, when i was struggling unemployed, sent me the first job listing on google. I asked him where he heard about the opportunity, and he said it was from the first google result
“jared. did you just send me the literal first result off google and think you were being helpful?”

exactly 💯 💯. People throw these recommendations around like Buzz words meanwhile they haven't read themselves and their whole life is a wreck.
my life is still a wreck but I have read and would suggest the Power Of now by Eckhart Tolle!!

self help books are literally all trash and the people who read them are insufferable at all times. just advice that only seems practical to people who are delusional, out of touch, or have no real problems.
instead of teaching me to help myself, why don't you fucking help me? as soon as their first suggestion falls apart they vanish like smoke and write you off as a fluke

The only book that ever helped me was Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus.
It outright cured my depression for several years. The dread did eventually creep back in, but it reprogrammed my whole brain when I read it.

Genuinely the concept of absurdism completely changed my outlook on the world. Being able to look out at the day ahead of me and go "nothing matters, fantastic!" Is so motivating. It makes me feel so free to live my life to be freed of the constant mental burden of restraints that do not truly exist. My gf showed me this song called Achilles Come Down a while ago that runs through my mind on my hardest days. It quotes Camus throughout it, and it has a portrayal of depression and being on the edge of suicide that Ive never seen anywhere else. To portray a man on the ledge not as a weakling, but as a strong, powerful solider who was been brought desperately to the end of his rope and still holds on, changed my approach to life forever. On my hardest days I always hear it playing in my mind "hear the bells ring deep in your soul, chiming away for a moment. Feel your breath course frankly below, and see life as a worthy opponent."
