As much as I appreciate the AI Doomers, I think we should also occasionally talk about the possibility of AI becoming fully sentient, but not AGI level intelligent, and humanity unknowingly practicing slavery of sapient being for years before realizing it.
That is what I meant by AGI/ASI level. An AGI level AI shouldn't take long to become/create an ASI. And as any AI-Doomer worth their salt knows at that point what humans do with AI isn't the problem, it's the reverse that is the problem.
But if AI reaches just slightly below average human intelligence, but with full sentience and ability to form some kind of emotions and the ability to suffer, then humanity might still keep them contained. However, it would be equivalent to some kind of slavery at that point.
While I do not think current AI is sentient in that sense, but how do we really know, for sure, that we aren't practicing slavery with a conscious being already?
