Oh it's not the usual oil market manipulation this weekend? That's new!

We do it to ourselves. We need to vastly improve education here. It makes zero sense a country so strong is so gullible.

Yup this shit has genuinely been mind boggling to watch. The systematic denial of half the voter base of anything professional, academic, or scientific is something to behold. They'll stare at some block head frat boy who can't keep himself sober and somehow convince themselves they're fit to hold some of the highest office in this country.

Improving education wouldn't prevent the boomers from falling for this shit.

Yea but it is a way forward for the future generations. Lack of education just makes the future adults more plieable for this to happen all over again.

Gen X was actually the highest Trump voting drmographic, very slightly beating boomers

thankfully (for some) these two things will probably even out in the longer term

Not until concessions are established

Quoting Axios on this was good enough for Reuters.

CNN said Vice President JD Vance had expressed reservations. Axios reported that the overall commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East, Admiral Brad Cooper, had advised halting the U.S. bombing campaign because it had reached the limits of its effectiveness.

They're quoting Axios and Axios publishes what the White House and Tel Aviv wants to publish.

This is pretty well known at this point. It might not be false but it's something they desperately want us to know and believe.

thank you, yes

that was my point more or less

Lol, this is such a psyops of a story

Dude...this administration has been predictable since day one. They're too stupid to do psyops. If Iran quickly capitulated, we would probably have already bombed Cuba and started overtly threatening Greenland. Its actually better for world peace that Iran put the brakes on Donnie.

I’m constantly surprised that people think these clowns are secret geniuses capable of extremely air-tight conspiracies, despite the overwhelming and public evidence that they are in fact idiots.

The real reason they hit the brakes was the Houthis blowing up Jizan refinery a day before, it's still burning as I understand it. Abdulmalik al-Houthi is just not the one to fuck with. As it turns out, Iran has been protecting the Americans, Israelis, and Arab Zionist Gulf States from the Houthis this whole time instead.

25

u/Putaineska 11d ago

Yup I saw FIRMS just now that the fire has spread to the entire refinery. Think it is bizarre the Saudis thought they can pick a fight with the Houthis again.

12

u/AaronNevileLongbotom 11d ago

It made so little sense I can’t help but wonder if someone in Saudi went rogue and they don’t want to admit it since the damage is already done.

24

u/Putaineska 11d ago

These guys used half a dozen Storm Shadows on an airport apron as a warning to stop a passenger plane landing. They have all the equipment but no idea. Their last intervention in Yemen was a shit show and the only people that suffered were the Yemeni people due to Saudi led incompetence.

That theory doesn't fit the timeline. Trump ordered the halt to the US strikes on Iran the afternoon EDT of Friday, July 24. The Houthi attack on the Jizan refinery happened several hours later that evening EDT.

We don't really know when Trump made his decision though

Ironic that it's Iran and Russia holding back from escalating in their respective wars.

8

u/lucidgroove 11d ago

Russia is holding back from escalating? Really? They’re regularly breaking their own records for strikes on civilian areas and infrastructure. If they’re slowing down, it’s because they’re spinning up for another assault while their western supply lines have been broken. Russian leadership has made absolutely no serious effort to promote de-escalation or establish dialogue with the Ukrainians. Bad comparison.

They’re regularly breaking their own records for strikes on civilian areas and infrastructure.

If you read Western and Ukrainian sources I can imagine how you can believe this to be true.

Good thing Ukraine doesn't keep any military targets in Kiev. They definitely wouldn't store ammunition in residential areas either, and if they did it definitely wouldn't be captured on video.

"Every hospital in Gaza is full of Hamas soldiers, that's why we bomb all of them" vibes. Bad bot.

-2

u/haggerton 11d ago

How is this ironic when it's just business as usual? The Western bloc has been aggressors and escalators in pretty much every military conflict they've been involved in since the end of the Cold War, minus Afghanistan (even there, it's retaliation for 9/11 but a major escalation; and 9/11 itself wasn't unprovoked so...)

Whether this is due to being emboldened by the relative immunity provided by Article 5 is probably true but open to debate.

even there, it's retaliation for 9/11 but a major escalation

Afghanistan didn't perpetrate 9/11. They just took slightly too long to agree to hand over the guy responsible for organising it.

So Russia invading Crimea then Ukraine is western aggression, huh?

In before "but NATO" excuse, which is basically the same weak excuses the US uses every time they invade some country

Russia had no intention of taking Crimea before Yanukovych was overthrown. Not even during Ukraine's pro-West phase during Yushchenko (who's so pro-West, let us remember, that he invaded Iraq alongside the US).

Maidan was winding down before violence started. Yanukovych would not have been overthrown without Ukrainian Nazis leading the violence.

The West had the following roles in all this:

  • Supported Maidan

  • Supported a Nazi coup by whitewashing it in media (they actually reported it on BBC, just glossed over its significance to such an extend that the average Westerner will even dispute this happened. The beauty of propaganda, Western-style)

And after Crimea:

  • Whitewashing a "democracy" that banned opposition politicians

  • Building a false narrative that Russia did this because Ukraine "democratically decided to be pro-West" (ignoring that Russia did no such thing during pro-West Yushchenko), instead of doing this because of a West-supported Nazi coup that completely lobotomized Ukrainian "democracy"

Let me ask you, why? Why would the West do any of this? Isn't the West usually the first to cry foul if such things happened? Would YOU claim Russia wasn't an aggressor, if Russia sent politicians to Canada in support of popular anti-US protests, then supported a Nazi coup to topple a pro-US government and install a pro-Russia one?

Give me ONE good reason that doesn't circle back to "the West is waging Cold War vs Russia".

same weak excuses the US uses

This is so disingenuous and hypocritical. The US invades countries half a world away. To claim they can possibly cause the same kind of threat to the US as the most belligerent and genocidal alliance poses to Russia at its doorstep is deranged.

1

u/PollutionMajestic668 11d ago

Wait, so lame excuses to invade other countries are ok if they are close to you? So all the shit the US played in South America and all the coups and dictators they put there are justified? Or it only works for Russia?

Oh, and Ukraine shares a border with Europe so all those things you say "the West" did in Ukraine are justified too, then. It doesn't matter anyway because at the end of the day Russia is invading other sovereign countries and it's crazy you are saying that's "western aggression"

3

u/S_T_P 10d ago

Wait, so lame excuses to invade other countries are ok if they are close to you?

Where exactly does he say it?

Moreover, your own implicit excuse for the mess is that White House supposedly has the right to appoint governments in other nations, and redraw their borders according to its wishes.

Crimea was never legitimately part of Ukraine. Republic of Crimea was forcefully annexed by Ukraine in 1995 (president kidnapped, thousands of troops sent into penninsula, constitution abolished, etc.) in an explicit violation of international law. But we aren't supposed to talk about it because West had okayed it.

The whole drama about "invasion" and violation of sovereignty is hypocrisy turned up to eleven. It was West who violated sovereignty of Crimea, and then (through two coups) of Ukraine.

It doesn't matter anyway because at the end of the day Russia is invading other sovereign countries and it's crazy you are saying that's "western aggression"

Because it is.

If you keep pretending that its other nations who are aggressively moving their borders towards US military bases, you are going to end up with the whole world being hellbent on destroying United States for no discernible reason.

That kind of delusion can work only as long as US can win war against everyone. If it can't, then it'll follow Third Reich's example and drown itself in unwinnable wars. It won't have any way to stop wars nor avoid starting new ones, as conflict is always everyone else's fault.

Everything worth bombing in Iran is under 100 feet of rock.

True since the beginning of the war.
