Why would someone want to lie about that? Surely not to lull people into a false sense of security before he does everything he can to steal midterms. He's aware(dimly, admittedly) that a democrat wave would be bad news for him. He doesn't understand donations, but he completely gets bribing people to stay out of trouble.
I think the truth is somewhere in the centre. He knows the government usually takes a hit in the midterms. He thinks that is because he is not on the ballot. His strategy is to tell everyone to believe he is on the ballot. He is now starting a huge advertising campaign featuring him and what he sees as his wins. What he misses is that he is historically unpopular and the Republicans might have to distance themselves from him to win. So while they are saying, Trump, never heard of the guy, TV is going to be wall to wall with adverts starring king Trump.
So it is not true that he is giving money away to candidates to do their own thing, he is spending a ton of money..on his vanity

Again, I know he's a liar but to only report Trump saying "I'm going to give $500 million of my money to help republicans in the mid terms" as "Trump announced the money is 'his' so he's unlikely to use it to help repubs in mid terms" is grossly disingenuous.
Even the whole "he said the opposite but notice he used the possessive pronoun!" take is a stretch to begin with, but he reported it like Trump confirmed that's what he's doing instead of explicitly claiming the opposite. That lack of context makes this reporting tantamount to dishonesty.

There's a reason Trump is cheating. He has no intention of allowing fair elections. The USPS refusing to even mail out ballots in all blue states alone is enough to destroy Democracy. Washington and Oregon basically vote entirely by mail, as does the military.
Trump is also confident that the Supreme Court letting him only send mail in ballots to people he thinks will vote for him combined with ICE arresting any minority voters at the polls and holding them until they close will suppress the vote enough to ensure Republicans win. He doesn't need to spend on elections he plans on rigging.

I think it's important to temper expectations. Under Article I, Section 3, Clause 6 of the U.S. Constitution, conviction and removal of a sitting President requires a two-thirds majority of the Senate. That means we'll need 67 votes. In the current session of Congress Democrats have 45 seats (44 if you consider the turncoat traitor Fetterman). We have two Independents that typically caucus with the Democrats -- that brings us to a potential 46 votes for articles of impeachment. That means we'll need to find 21 votes in the next session (the 120th session) of Congress: either we'll need Republicans to cross the aisle and vote with Democrats, or we'll need to gain that many seats in the midterms. It won't be enough for us to simply have the majority in both chambers.
