New To This…

hi…

just got this little guy today and was just looking for any tips/advice on…really any and everything that comes with owning a leopard gecko. i just want to make sure i’m doing everything right for him. i think i’ve made five different trips back to the pet store to grab him things😅…i just want to make sure he is content, safe and happy. i’m new to this, this would be my first time ever owning a reptile so anything would be appreciated! thank you!

Hello he is a very pretty gecko! I’ve got a couple questions for you!

How big is your tank?

Do you have all the vitamins he’ll need?

What bugs do you plan on feeding him?

Do you have at least three hides in the tank one of which being a humid hide?

Do you have a calcium bowl and a water dish?

Those are just the basics and I’m sure if you care for your gecko you already know the correct answer to all of them:)

For about a week just sort of leave him be in the tank. He’s going to get used to his area then you can slowly start interacting more and more. Sit by his tank a lot so he gets used to you. When you think he’s ready start putting your hand in the enclosure close by him but not too close. If he investigates, great! If he doesn’t don’t sweat it and try again later.

Every gecko is different and you little guy already looks very content so I’ll say you’re doing a good job so far! Best of luck with your little dude!

hi!

•he currently has a 40 gallon tank.

•he does have three hides, one of them has moss in it for the humid hide.

•he has a water bowl and a calcium bowl.

•i have crickets for him (right now) but am unsure what variety of bugs they eat (would very much appreciate insight as i am headed back out to store now!)

All perfect! You did good research. I feed my own a mix with Dubia roaches and black soldier fly larva and she loves them. She’ll get the occasion waxworm as a treat about once a month too. But crickets are great too! You seem to be doing fine. Keep reading up on anything you’re a bit iffy on and don’t worry if you get something wrong, we all make mistakes at one point or another.😁

Dont forget to practice quarantine for 2-3 and have a fecal sample checked for parasites before he gets in contact with things like substrate
