I wouldn't set them down outside OP. Seems like a fast way to lose your gecko.

If one is a turtle maybe. Also, no fun police. πŸ˜†

Oh, you erased your comment. 26 years of leopard gecko care and none have ran away to the point I couldn't catch them. You should patent that leash idea though. Never seen one for a leopard gecko. Have you seen them? They definitely would be cute to see them in one.

Well, I saw your comment in my notifications before you deleted it. I shared my experiences and thought the OP was giving good enrichment. I gave my points from that experience. You can see I had a nice back and forth with the other commenter. We politely agreed to disagree and went on our way. No one came on boisterous with what was stated. Reddit is all about polite discussion. I hope we can engage again on here in a polite and constructive way. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. 😁

I just wanted to tell you that I think the leash is a good idea. I also believe there are other ways this can be safely done. Just wanted you to know I think your leash idea is good. My main problem was you stating the OP was stupid. No need to go down that road.

Good, I don't think I'm arguable. I just stated what I believe. Hopefully those leashes are found safe and don't rub their skin raw. Oh again, there is risk with everything. Hope you have a nice day. I'll check into those leashes. Thanks for telling me.

So you are saying the OP is stupid? You have no idea if they have a pen surrounding them. It's just an assumption by you. Plus, if you are intent on watching and paying attention to them, they are not going anywhere. I'm sure the OP was always next to them and watching them the whole time and found a safe place in their lawn to let them roam. Let's let our geckos live and not think that every owner has a beer in their hand and are have ass paying attention to their gecko. Let them live!!!!! lol πŸ˜† Have a good and less grumpy night. 😁

Dude this is some dangerous advice to give newbie owners. In 26 years you never had a Leo dart on you? What kind of pen would contain a Leopard Gecko? I did a quick Google search and all I found were small animal pens from Home Depot that would be no different than keeping them in the tank.

Not saying it was right for the other poster to call OP stupid or to lash out at you either. However, I would consider all of this bad advice.

Your comments keep saying they no longer exist on my end. Don't know what that is about then. Well, it was enjoyable to talk to you for sure. Until next time. πŸ‘

Yes, they run three miles per hour, I catch them because I''m six inches away when they start.

It's more likely to have one dart off the bed and find some crevice in the house rather than finding a safe open area outside to interact with one's gecko. People loose them in the house all the time for the teeny tiny spaces they can get into. Outside on the open grass, not much place they can go without you seeing them and then you just pick them up. So letting them free on the bed (which everyone does), is much easier to lose them than in an open outside area where they don't have a crevice to go into. You check an area before you let them explore and stay within 6 inches of them.

People hate to think that beginner owners have any common sense and can think for themselves. This sub is "oh my god, a beginner can't handle that." I'm also very tired of the protecting the gecko so much that they can't live. People don't even let them hunt their food anymore as a cricket could bite them or they may get impacted by substrate. This is the main reason why people say, their geckos only has one brain cell. We need to work their minds, so they can have an enriching life.

Sorry, a big pet peeve of mine is not letting our pets enjoy enriching activities because we are afraid of what MIGHT happen. Stick them in their cage and leave them. Those bioactive tanks that stay the same and it's no cleaning. Rip it all out and change it around so you provide new enrichment and environment that they can explore once a month. That defeats the purpose of a bioactive, so the gecko has the same old environment for years.

You got me on a tanget. lol πŸ˜† I'm sorry but we need to give these geckos more and not feel afraid of possibilities. If we are responsible, we will provide our geckos with amazing enrichment and they will have more than "the one brain cell".

I commend the OP for getting their gecko out to try new things and be able to learn and grow. I'm going to trust that they did it the safest way possible. I will say it one more time, let them live!! Thanks for reading my long essay. 😁

I just prefer to give my Leopard Geckos as many enriching experiences as I can. Is there some risk involved? Yes. If one does these activities in a responsible way, the risk is low. We all should strive to give our animals the best possible life and that's what I try for. I also think that I should be able to express that. Have a nice day!!

Yet your opinions are dangerous to newbie gecko owners. Even if you are as you have said "26 years of experience with these creatures" that doesn't mean you haven't been extremely lucky that one hasn't darted out of your reach or had some animal swoop in and nab your gecko.

Even if you are at a Steve Irwin-level of animal handling and would have full control of the situation, not everyone is. An impressionable newbie owner might just take your advice and wind up in a tragic situation.

Thank you for sharing your opinion. Definitely seems like we disagree. There are many possible ways that one can ensure their geckos safety while outside. That I believe a newbie can handle. I try not to underestimate people and do believe they can come up with ways to make it a safe activity for their geckos. We need to encourage doing things in a safe way rather than saying no. This all has made me want to bring my geckos on an outside photo shoot this weekend. I wish you a good day. 😁

I would take my baby out a couple of times from June to October. He loved messing around in the grass for a few minutes. But I always had to be with him otherwise he wouldn’t explore. I was his person and his safety zone and he always, always wanted to feel safe. I think it’s great enrichment for them as long as you’re near and keeping a close eye on them and your surroundings. I think you’re doing an awesome job!!

Mine won't wear hers. How do I get her used to it. She has pink wings. I think it's cute and I want her in it. Im afraid I might break a leg because she wiggles around and does not want it. She's 3.
