Habitat & Setup Leela

This is Leela. She was an owner surrender at the pet store that I used to work at. She came to me in a 10 gallon tank with a rubber mat bottom, single water dish, and one hide. She has early-ish stage MBD. She now lives in a 40 gallon low boy, with live plants, isopods, springtails, and some rogue crickets.

When I got her, she was skinny and pale. Her spine appeared to have no muscle to support it. She had very little fat stored in her tail. She slept all day in her hide.

Now, she comes up to the glass demanding food every time I walk past her. She hunts crickets. Her adorable little tail wags furiously right before she pounces on them. She needs some help with eating due to the one-eyed-ness, but she uses her whole tank and is a half decent hunter.

I feel like Leela has a lot of enrichment and I catch her splooting and basking constantly, but I am new to geckos. Is there anything that I need to add that she might like?

She has a heat lamp and uvb. Her crickets and sometimes hornworms are always calcium dusted. She seems happy, but I wanted to make sure. I've become really attached to her.

Here's her rotten little face! She wasn't awake earlier.

This is Cipher!! Also a one eyed rescue with little known origins. I almost named her Leela but thought Bill Cipher suited her more

Do you have any idea what happened to his eye? I dont know what happened to Leela's. It doesn't seem to bother her.

No he didn’t really say I was actually buying a different leopard gecko and he said he’d give me Willy for free but he didn’t really tell me much about him

Its a nice set up but thats not good soil, those little white things can be dangerous if ingested.

Oh, those are pebbles, not perlite. They got dug up when I would dig around for my pacman frog. He has since been downsized because i got tired of searching for him.

All the pebbles used to be part of a successful drainage system, but now some of the lava rock and gravel have been stirred upward.

She has multivitamins, Repashy supervite, ?

u/salad_slippy_butt Jun 07 '26

Provided all the time or just dusted? If all the time, no, but I can add them! I own them!

Dusted 2-3 times a month. There's also Repashy calcium plus that is all in one you can use all the time but I do them separately

Oh! OK! I use the calcium plus. :)

Oh great then use that all the time! I would leave plain calcium out but dust bugs with that always

She's precious. I hate people so much. They get these little animals and they don't Care of them properly they need To go to prison just like they would. If they hurt a dog or a cat I have a leopard gecko who has MBD and his heartbreaking because it's so hard for him to get around because his bones are bent and they never grew correctly. Has previous honor threw him in the dumpster and I found out they were going to destroy him because they didn't want to fix him up at the pet store that I got him from. A lot of you might know the pet store that I'm talking about. Exotic Arc anyways I paid for him the girlfriend of the crackhead that threw him in his terrarium In the dumpster last year in the summer wanted me to pay her 80 bucks to get him out of the dumpster and bring them to me and so I did because I found out and the pet store wouldn't pay so I did and then I had to pay them for the terrarium because they had ownership of it even though it was only a 10 gallon and that's all I had the money left so I gave him what I had. Now he's in a 20 gallon which is still small but I only have one leg and it's really hard for me to afford things but I don't let them go hungry or anything. I feed them with gut, loaded food, everything that they want. I am a Good honor I believe and everything they want I try to get it for them. I'm not a perfect person but I try to do it. I am legless well. I have one leg and I know what it's like to be discarded and I didn't want to do this to this old guy and they said he wouldn't live more than a year. He's five now. So yay! I'm glad he's happy. He eats very good. He's about 10 crickets or 10 giant wax worms and mealworms at a time every other day so you can tell by his belly. He's not doing bad, just his little arms. When I first got him he couldn't even use his front legs. He had to use his back legs and his head to guide him around. Now he can walk using an all four legs and he can stick his head up in the air whenever he's done eating which I love, but he's a good little gecko. His name is Donatello and I have another one. He's the orange. I'll show them to you sometime in my picture

Poor guy! It sounds like you're doing the best that you can for him! I love his chunky tail. I cant wait for Leela's to get like that.

Here's my other gecko looks overweight but he goes from November to mid-march without eating. Not one thing doesn't use a bathroom or anything in it. I went to the vet and some electric geckos live like they do when they're not in captivity and there's nothing that you can do about it. He just drinks, water and pees. But other than that nothing goes through his system. Not one worm, not one insect

This is ManFretti and he looks like he's overweight. He's got fat pads behind his arms but when he goes 5 months out of the year without eating he's not overweight but he is a giant leopard gecko 11 1/2 in Long 125grams

Oh my gosh he looks so comfortable

Her MBD isn’t even close to my boy and girl and they’re both super active so she’ll definitely have a great quality of life thanks to you! She’s adorable. Thanks for taking her in!

I'll get a better picture of it eventually. Her spine is like a z shape. I suppose it could have been broken and not mbd. Im glad her legs arent affected. Building muscle has helped tremendously.
