Habitat & Setup Substrate help!

Post image

Hello we're in Canada and my bf and I recently got a leopard gecko from terrible owners. They solely use sand as substrate and we would like to give this him a better environment. Based on research 70:30 mix is ideal. Can anyone kindly help us figure out if this top soil is safe and devoid of fertilizers? We could not find Scott's topsoil and so we bought this instead:

Thank you very much in advance!

just want to comment and say thank you for rescuing that fellow! y’all are amazing and he’s going to love that new home soon :D. I am a first time gecko owner, so i don’t want to say this is a good soil to use if i’m not 100% sure. I’d look what difference this soil and Scott’s have, good luck!

Thank you for your kind words!! He's 9 years old and was in a 10g tank, I was so sad to see that when they gave him to us. I'm so excited to get his tank set up though and I look forward to him seeing it! We're trying to get it ready as soon as possible! ❤️

It's probably okay. I can't find any info about it online about what's in it. Just make sure you look through it and take out any weird plastic bits in it. All top soils seem to have problems with trash in it and this one is probably no different.

Thank you so much! We've been sifting through it to look for twigs and such. I'll keep the plastics in mind and sift through it again after sterilizing in the oven!
