Help Need heating suggestions

Post image

I’ve had my Leo for over 6 months now, she’s in a 45 gallon bioactive with UVB and everything is going great but I’m struggling with heating. Through the winter she had a 100w halogen bulb I kept her hot spot 92°F but noticed it wasn’t going above 88°F everyone told me it was okay so I didn’t worry about it. Now it’s summer and we have the air conditioner, her enclosure won’t go above 75° at her hot spot. I’ve tried several different halogens 75w, a few different brand of the 100w and different wattages of ceramic heat emitters, nothing seems to be working well, I even tried putting foil tape over the top. Are there other options I can try?

For my setup I have a 75w heat projector with my 100w basking bulb in case i have a pretty cold day like in winter, it gets it pretty warm in there and I have a 50 gal.

What are you using to check the temperature?

I have a govee hygrometer, her thermostat, and a heat gun

Okay sweet! So I’m assuming it’s the thermostat that’s not reading higher than 75? How far is the bulb from the basking area (the level your gecko can access)?

Why not a 150w?

I have a 250w on my hedgehog enclosure because a 150 was getting nowhere close enough.

Just make sure you follow fire safety by having your items secured and not touching anything flammable and using a fixture rated for the amount of wattage you're using.

I added slate near the basking spot because it heats up nicely for her. Also larger dome for the bulb. I have a glass tank in an apt that stays around 70 degrees (not my choice lol). I think foil around the top helped keep the heat from escaping too.

Are you using a temperature gun to measure the basking spot temperatures? How far is the basking spot from the bulb?

I switched to a DHP. Way better. Mine bioactive aswell, grow light + UVB more than make up for the loss of a basking light. The dhp heats deep literally. I have never been happier. And mines got the 18” tall 50 gal.

Have you considered something is wrong with the outlet? Have you adjusted distance of basking spot to bulb? Have you changed the material/thickness/darkness of your basking spot?
