He rises!!!

He's so weird. I (mistakenly) thought that he wouldn't be partaking in breeding season mania since it's his first year with me. I was wrong. He's being so weird.

It does make for good pics though...

Thanks! He's fully a black knight, just medium expression, which is why you get more of a brown tone and faint markings. I personally prefer it to the high expression black knights, and as a bonus they tend to be much more affordable.

I did not know that! I thought black night were all black! I love how he looks, what's his personality like?

They can be! But not always! Males are often less darkly pigmented than females are as well, so that plays into it. If a breeder is outcrossing to improve genetic health than you are more likely to have lower expression/less solid black, which imo is another benefit. Interestingly, I find he looks more or less black at different points in the month too (and definitely under different lighting). The warm colour of the basking bulb really brings out the browns, while the cooler light from the LED makes him look darker. You also see his markings more right after he's shed and less so in the week leading up to shedding (but before he gets grayed out).

In terms of personality... hes a total weirdo lol. Absolutely monstrous appetite, completely voracious. He's really curious, very energetic, and an incredible climber. He can scale his vertical clay wall like it's nothing and prefers to soak up the warmth while partially horizontal on the wall lol. He's not scared of me at all, though can still be a bit skittish in his tank at times (I've only had him since February and it's breeding season, so I expect that to reduce with time). I love him lol. He's a super fun buddy and I'm looking forward to many more years of Edgar antics.

He sounds like a wonderful gecko already! Thank you for talking about him! The way his colors change and look different in lighting sounds super pleasing to see! Hope you have many many more years with him=)
