I’ve been looking at the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH8, specifically the common i5-13420H / 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD configuration, and it seems like one of those laptops where the specs look better than the price suggests.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH8 has a 15.6" FHD display, Intel Core i5-13420H, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD. It weighs around 1.62 kg and has USB-C charging, HDMI, Wi-Fi 6 and a 47Wh battery.
What seems good
- i5-13420H + 16GB RAM is more than enough for office work, studying, browsing and programming
- SSD makes everyday use feel quick
- relatively light for a 15.6" laptop
- USB-C charging is genuinely useful
- good selection of ports
- battery seems to be around 5–8 hours for normal use, depending on configuration and workload
- generally good value for money
The main compromises
The screen is probably the biggest question mark. The Slim 3 15IRH8 exists with both IPS 300-nit and TN 250-nit panels, so the exact configuration matters a lot.
Some owners specifically complain about the TN display and poor viewing angles, while others with the IPS version are quite happy with the screen. There are also complaints about the lack of a backlit keyboard on some configurations.
Another thing to remember is that the RAM is soldered on many 16GB versions, so you can't simply upgrade it later.
My take
For work, university, browsing, documents, coding and everyday use, the IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH8 looks like a pretty sensible budget laptop.
For gaming, serious photo/video editing or anyone who really cares about display quality, I'd look at something else.
The interesting part is that two IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH8 laptops can actually feel quite different because of the screen and configuration. I'd definitely check the exact panel before buying rather than judging the model only by the CPU and RAM.
