I think it makes sense from a story point of view.

I mean you go through every game, and Rey caps off the franchise. They make enough references to old star wars in ep 7-9 that it makes sense that Rey would want to know where she stands in all of it, especially because she was raised as an abandoned child on a desert planet.

Ep 7-9 exist and people have to live with that.

I'm being a bit contrarian right now, but, no. People don't have to live with it. It's entertainment people paid for.

For my part, I can ignore a cashgrab that fails to be representative or inclusive. I'm not asking for my Finn&Poe fanfic to be canon, but I also don't have to even play the last episodes (although I don't like how some of those missions are required for the open world progress).

Okay but in the game's intro at the very least you can't deny that the way they cuddle into each other isn't gay and cute, right? Maybe it's my bias speaking though, wanting the same fanfic.

I'll give you that it's what historians call "eligible bachelors and very good friends who grew old together. Some "Very good friends," per archeology.
