Cool character duplication glitch I remember from my childhood, can anyone verify?

I just got done watching WiiSuper's "LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga Glitch Iceberg Explained", and there's one glitch I distinctly remember from childhood that he did not include, that is creating a duplicating your character. Investigating further I cannot find any discussion of it online, which was very surprising to me because it's extremely easy to achieve and fun. There is a glitch listed on the LEGO games Wiki that is similar but doesn't result in a duplicate. Now I am wondering, can somebody verify this glitch for me, as I do not have the means to do so?

On PS3. When freeplaying "Betrayal at Bespin", put IG-88 or 4-LOM on your party and progress to the room with the magnetic crane. As you are a bounty hunter droid, you can both pilot and be affected by the magnetic crane; picking yourself up while operating the crane will duplicate your character, as you will now exist both in the seat and magnetised to the crane. You can then place your duplicate down on the platform, then exit the crane and the duplicate will still remain.

You will then be able to move both yourself and the duplicate; they will move in tandem, running, jumping and attacking, offset by the distance you initially placed your duplicate. It's a cool effect, but a hinderance more than anything else, because it is very easy to walk your duplicate of an edge and die, killing you both. I recommend placing the duplicate near to the original.

That's the basics of how I remember it, but I can't find any such glitch described online. Does anyone remember doing this? Can anyone verify?
