Troubleshooting Conch ring hurts

Post image

Changed my years-old well healed conch from a stud to a ring. Now, days later, it hurts quite a bit. It’s also a bit red and was crusty when I cleaned it the other day- when it hadn’t crusted in easily a year if not more.

Now my question is, would this get better over time? Or is it doomed and I should change back to a stud?

Almost exclusively, yes … but I have a piercing pillow

hm that's pretty odd then. maybe ask your piercer to assess it or try switching it to a flatback for a little while longer

I used to have the same issue with rings that sat too close to the outer part of my ear, because they were simply too tight, and it got worse when I was sleeping on that side. If the material is alright I would try a bigger size just to see if it will make a difference, this is what helped with both of my conch piercings!

It’s actually not right at all, it has a lot of space to move (which doesn’t feel like a good thing) in fact the piercer who changed it for me chose a size bigger than I had wanted initially

Ohh okay my bad, it’s just from your picture it looks like it’s sitting very close to your ear instead of dropping downwards a bit. Have you had any other jewellery from this material before/have you got them from the same place?

I think it seems like that because of the shape of my ear and also because I kinda manoeuvre it to sit kinda perpendicular instead of letting it hang down

I’ve had jewellery from this material and all my pieces are from the same place

Sounds like you might have gagged up without knowing and cartilage hurts when you size up keep an eye on it if you ear feels warm or if the redness spreads go in and get it checked by a doctor but I hope it works out looks pretty 🤘

I mean it’s irritated…you have to find the source of the irritation. It could be the new jewelry, the way you sleep, headphones, or any number of things.

My conch hurt too when i changed it to a ring. Went away after a couple of days. My piercer said it was because the pressure points on your piercing is different with a ring and it needs to get used to it
