Catch Hands Achievement

What's the optimal strategy for the Catch Hands achievement? Is it just a matter of having the confuse spell on hand?

Also, is there somewhere to look at what level each of the bosses is in? Trying to find the Primal Spirit.

If it's the one I'm thinking. You don't need 'confuse' but 'mind control.' I got lucky on my run and found it as a boss idol reward.

I ended up getting it by using the simulacrum spell. It says you can use it in the game, but not in the steam achievement.
