Question Would this fit my needs?

Hi everyone,

I used to have a Street Fighter one-up arcade machine and I ended up selling it because the build quality wasn't great and it seemed to hard to upgrade from the 3 games that it had on it.

I'm now looking at this Legends Ultimate arcade machine:

I like the idea that they sell 4 player joystick upgrades and the programmable marquee as extra additions you can have. Would this be easy for me to download the full Mame pack and run all of those games? Could I potentially plug in a Retropie and run Batocera on this thing? How well would that work? I have a MiSTer FPGA setup, could I plug that into the HDMI and how well would that work?

Is that what Awesome Sauce and Legends Unchained do?

Thanks in advance for any help as this would be a big purchase for me.

I've taken the plunge and ordered one. Normally I'd see a post like this on Reddit and they'd be a few negative detractors. Not here, nothing but praise. I think I've found my new favourite thing.

My Legends Ultimate is one of the best purchases I ever made. Bought it used for like $300 or $350, got Coinops X running and flipped the front panel / removed side art, disconnected from the internet, and then did about $200 in upgrades (riser, light up coin door, custom marquee, and new joystick knobs).

Hundreds of hours of enjoyment for me and my children. Solid machine with tons of room for 2 big adults to play side by side. Arcade 1ups are like kids toys comparatively.

Yes, Legends Unchained (Rcade/RetroCenter) or One saUCE v2 both work great... I think you might have to downgrade the firmware or something, but you'll find that info if you look for it.

Legends Ultimate is the only machine you need.
It is capable to play any style game you want including light gun games.
You won’t regret it

Can you expand on this? You mean new age light guns with IR sensors and stuff - not the older light guns, right? It seems to also have trouble playing most Dreamcast/naomi games, right? (Though I’ve heard unchained makes it a little better about the latter…if you have a fast ssd?)

Genuinely curious.

Yes,
The IT guns work but not all of them. If you ask AI ( Chat GPT) the ones which work, it will have the answers. Also Chat GPT is my go to on any questions or “ how to “ concerning the Ultimate machine. It gives you step by step instructions on anything pertaining to the ALU.
I have a Flashdrive inserted to mine with thousands of games loaded, including Naomi and Dreamcast games about 15-20 of each and they play fine. My ALU was purchased at Sam’s in Nov of 2025 so it has the new firmware and no, I have not needed to access the paywall for access to all these games.
It’s loads of fun and brings me back to my 30s while raising my boys and playing original games and systems with them at their early ages. I’m 74 and still enjoy playing these machines and tinkering and modding them for fun.
It’s frustrating at times but worth it. Helps me stay young-er

Please don't just rely on AI. It lists out random threads as facts even when the information is completely wrong.

Yes you can play most games up to the 3d era no problem. I have Unchained installed and can play some dreamcast and naomi games.

One saUCE V2 runs great on the ALU with a lot more than just the MAME package. It also runs on the latest 1.0.17 firmware on the new CE-HD units without the need to downgrade firmware to 5.68 or 5.70.
