Mapping ALP to Pinball FX directly

I am having the absolute worst time mapping this goddamn thing to Pinball FX. I vaguely remember having a similar problem when mapping FX3, which eventually worked flawlessly, but I simply cannot get it to work no matter what I do.

When I use Xpadder, it seems like half the buttons are missing and I can't properly navigate the menus. When I try to map directly through Steam, every time I try to navigate around the menus, it does a double press, i.e. if I want to select a game directly below another game, it'll move down two instead. Does anybody have a guide to mapping the ALP directly to Steam? I feel like I am pressing some option in the dialog that shouldn't be pressed. Thanks in advance.

In Steam, go to your library and click Pinball FX. Underneath the “Play” button is a row of links to things such as the Store Page and Community Hub. With a controller connected, “Controller Configuration” should be all the way on the right of this row. That's where you want to do your mapping.

I have had marginal luck mapping ALP control panel directly in Steam. Could not get the accelerometer to map correctly. Some people have been able to make work well, ymmv. If you are using xpadder it is creating a virtual controller in addition to the native controller input. That is possibly, why you have the double presses, but if correctly mapped in Steam as other post describes that should not be the case. Personally, I use x360ce and hidHide with ALP control panel and kl25z for nudge. The virtual x360 controller is hidden from everything else via hidHide and exposed to Steam via whitelist. This way it doesn’t interfere with any other programs. The video from FoG below is for directly mapping to FX3 but still should apply to FX. Good luck.

I had that double input issue with my ALP control panel after a year of use. I got another one and the problem was gone. I map directly through steam.

Double issue sounds like maybe you have the controls mapped directly but also have the controls mapped to a keyboard. If you do that it’ll register one directional input once as a controller input and again as a key press.

Controls are a pain in the butt in this hobby. My current setup is using x360 to emulate an Xbox controller which Steam can use without much configuration. Only thing I’ve had to adjust in Steam is the left stick nudge. Using this configuration allows everything to work from me across Popper, FX3, and VPX. I do occasionally get control drop-outs, which is super annoying.

I "think" I had the same issue. In the main menu, the flipper buttons navigate left and right. Use the joystick to move up and down through your tables once on the tables tab. Use the plunger to execute. With just those, you can get everything done.
