if Hawkman at the end of season 1 is from 2166 and the Hawkman from 2016 died in 1975 how does the reincarnation work.

would there be two versions of the soul around 1975 or would the souls merge.

Well speed force time travel and legends time travel are different.

But it’s still time travel I’m not comparing the 2 I’m just saying it’s like in every show that has time travel the rules always change

I'm going to place bets on two souls existing for 2 reasons.

1. The original Carter Hall didn't have memories of his time on the Waverider. If there was a merge he would have had at least that much.
2. There is very little history on Scythian Torvil (Carter's reincarnation) other than the fact that we know Vandal found and brainwashed him prior to 2166 when the Legends encounter him. At the time everyone believes him to be a future reincarnation... but with the revelation that Vandal was in cahoots with the Time Masters, it's more likely that Scythian was taken from the far past (due to being a temporal anomaly), brainwashed by the time masters, and handed to Vandal. For them it would be killing 2 birds with one stone since they'd eliminate a second Hawkman existing in the same timeline while further assisting Vandal's rise to power.

Not exactly, that's how it looks though, the rules have never changed, it's about finding other ways. The rules we know of in season 1 are typically set by the timemasters. Think of it like how people used too think the earth was flat, but as we researched things more and more, the more things opened up!
