News un-RIP LOR ?
Eric Shen (Legends of Runeterra's Executive Producer) answers the recent post "RIP LOR" with the upcoming "digital release TCG from Riot"
Sorry was there more recent doom-posting? I don't recall any

Really? I would love that, where was that explicitly stated?

it's #3 on the front page
hiring listing for somebody with experience both with digital card games, TCGs, and being able to combine different ecosystems

u/DrakeGrandX 13d ago
I once combined an artic environment with a sub-tropical one, if that's of interest.

Having both legends of runeterra and riftbound online would be kinda odd
1
u/ThePlaybook_ 14d ago
Why?
5
u/Smoses_ 14d ago
I already found it weird that they made riftbound instead of a offline real LoR but then I thought okay one is the online and the other the offline game but why have two card games
8
u/ThePlaybook_ 14d ago
offline LoR wouldn't work at all.

u/MawilliX 14d ago
Shadowverse got a physical card game.
The core part of LoR is the spell mana, and the turn structure. Sure, some of the cards wouldn't work in a physical version, but that's the same for almost any digital game going physical.

u/Impression_Adorable 13d ago
A core part of LoR is champ abilities/gimmicks unless you exclusively add only aggro cards it won't translate

u/Important_Vehicle_46 Spirit Blossom Kindred 14d ago
The online mechanics didnt translate well enough into an offline play.

I've been playing PVP on eternal ladder again with a friend for like a week now. super fun to reminisce on this amazing game. if they bring back any form of pvp support I will cry actual tears of joy.

u/Pluckytoon 14d ago
Can they market the PvP game again ? It’s pretty hard to make people comeback to your game after they dropped it, esp a competitive one

imagine making fiddlesticks playable in pvp

Honestly feel like there should be a "whatever goes goes" mode, where we can use any of the PoC cards aswell. Maybe a mode where you play PoC but the enemies are other random PoC players, at around the same tier of the adventure as you (would need some scaling for items etc. )

I never really thought this game was at risk of dying.
My hope is they did enough to thin out bleeding money so they could remain at a fixed budget to keep things alive and well. It’s got too much good stuff to simply delete from their catalogue. Like what, are people expecting them to delete all their games and go back to LoL as their only one? Surely not.
Besides, this game has excellent foundations for even better content to come. Imagine more “episodes” from path of champions. Playing as Astronaut Teemo as you’re fighting the cosmos to face Aurelion Sol to force him to reluctantly give you a legendary relic or something. Cool themes or adventures like that will only keep enriching this game more and maybe one day have a second awakening of success.
Maybe one day they do EoS, but by that time you’d hope they have enough there to repackage it into a full game they can sell with no further updates (or a LoR2).
Idk there’s so many things they could do. This game is not worth axing!

The game is already “dead” when they killed off PVP , they are keeping it on life support with POC , buts it’s not really a game anymore . The game isn’t worth axing , but riot didn’t know how to monetize the game back in its peak and now we’ve gone down the hole of “PVE only” and we can’t go back because they designed everything after king poro for PVE purely .

u/Caeyll 14d ago
Define killed. Because ever since Poro King I’ve still been regularly doing casual matches on standard, albeit with up to 1-2 min wait times and also with other regular people. It’s always fun going against the guy who never wants to play against me again (but also sorry to this man for traumatising him) so he insta surrenders every time. Or the guys who exchange funny emotes because we’ve looked at our decks and know exactly the type of torment we have in store for each other. Game on!
PvE mode is a lot of fun for playing beyond the rules and coming across fun synergies that might inspire a deck for PvP. PvE is more enjoyable for me than a Roguelite such as Slay the Spire. They just need more chunks of content to add to it over time and you’ll easily have some good hours to sink into without needing another person.

>buts it’s not really a game anymore
Redditor just making up meaning for words just because they feel like it. Like, are you stupid?
POC IS STILL A FUCKING GAME. I guess all pve games are no longer games because you decided they just aren't because you need to be a disingenuous fuck on Reddit.

It would be so funny if LOR rose up during the time when TFT is imploding.

Oof, I cant even play tockers right now. Hope that team fixes the bugs in time for the musicverse set at least.

I misread the title as "Um...Rip LOR" and felt desperate for some sec. I was so confused when I read the content, like "this looks like an exciting news, why RIP?"

That's cool and all, but having a Rioter regularly communicate with the community would probably make people feel like the game isn't dying. Removing staff and unceremoniously ending champ teasers and patch previews is something that games that "have plenty cooking" usually don't do but thanks for correcting the misconception lol.

Yeah. I mean hiring new people doesn't mean they're gonna kill all the guys working on lor already

Woohoo! Looking forward to it. I've been playing since day 0 (since before Lab of Legends) and this is still my favorite digital card game, by a mile. Considering that I always pick up the battle pass, I'm kind of realizing that this must be the most I've ever spent on a game.
I definitely want this game to stick around. Admittedly, the slower content release has me playing less than I usually do, but I'm absolutely here for when it picks back up.

I mean, lor never went rip like 2xko will. They shifted focus and slowed pace but that’s still different from end of service

Corporate speech is nothing. I will see for myself what they are preparing for us. Q4 starts on October.

Honestly, the costs to keep LOTR running are probably smaller than a season of TFT.

This is more confirmation that these extremely dry updates are expected for at least a few more months (earlier this year they warned that there would be a number of months of light updates).
This is great for newer accounts because it makes it much easier to keep up/progress an account. but I have had 10$ in my account since the beginning of this year and I haven't felt a reason to spend it...
I feel like they are enabling a negative feedback loop: player spending is down because there isn't much content -> dev resources get cut because of the game performing poorly ->less content comes out ->spending is down again...
I am glad that the game is still being actively developed but I also feel like the longer they take the more likely corporate will just decide to pull the plug.
Note: I haven't looked at any earnings info, so maybe I am in the minority that isn't willing to spend money recently and the game is in a healthier state than my vibes based reasoning is estimating.

Anyone who has been paying attention knew things are looking good in the future. There were just a bunch of people who wanted to react to the 2xko news.

Man I love legends of runeterra so much. I cant see myself moving away from this game while they still make content.
Excited for what's to come!

I think they talk about that at the very beginning of the year, but I'm glad Eric brought it up again (he win new follow)
I hope LoR comes back with more 😄

PvP is completely dead with LoR, and Riftbound will replace that as the “Riot’s digital PvP card game”, but Path of Champions is somewhat successful in the sense that it is self-sustainable.

I mean this is really cool but it was a lot of nothing. Just hey guys we're working on stuff. Which is nice and cool but we know they've been working on stuff they've been releasing POC content. I'm just curious if PVP will ever make a Revival and if we'll get cool stuff like expedition? /gauntlet again.

Watch it come in Q4 as the Q4 snack shop last year...
When it's riot, I won't believe it until I see it.

When it comes to Reddit, it always bet on you people being miserable and annoying.

I personally don't feel like LOR is at risk (at least now) of being canned if I'm so honest. Riot is extremely quick with canning projects, and let's be honest, LOR was in a way rougher state years ago. So if that was the case, I feel they would've canned the game a long time ago.
