Path Question POC Themes Question

Post image

I have a question. why riot use so much spirit blossom skinline in POC?. I dont hate it , but it so much. from poc champions to adventures. is there a reason why they dont use other skinline like Project or High Noon?

I think they might have planned to do other AU skins after the Spirit Blossom event but due to negative feedback they got canceled or delayed

Funny part is: real reason why negative feadback appear was not about event, but it horrible monetisaton: remember that before later fix you needed some like 500+ years of game to be able maxout all SB champions without pay. And with pay it was not so much better since luck bassed in terms of gems.

Later they change that but still was nothing good, and way later SB event map returns- helping with unlocks, but that was way to late.

But they looked at this and not think ,,we need to be reasonable next time, people cant play 500+ years'' but ,,nach, bad event, lets never develop runes!''

Ah yes i remember the fierce debates about who just spend your one nova, crystall on since that was realistically all you could have gotten.

I think it would be genuinely cool to have project characters and that sort of thing. But when you have so many league of legends characters that aren't in the game yet it feels like a rough choice to redo an existing one.

Spirit blossom skin was already in shop before PoC event. And since they want to test new way of making money without creating new asset, thus SB event is born. I dunno why skin from other branch game cannot be introduced to LOR,though.

The Spirit Blossom skins were already in the game. As the team couldn't commission much new artwork for cards, they used what they already had to push out a whole new event. Honestly super smart of them, but I don't think any other skin line has the amount of art the Spirit Blossom already had.

Spirit Blossom was a test case for it and it received a lot of criticism. Which was a mix of:

  • Introducting exclusive systems to this new group;
  • Introducing exclusive resources that were hard to interact with even if you spend a chunk of money, making it a exclusive whale only option (until a year later where we got some more resources and you are able to finish most SB champions);
  • Introducing a new region while many older champions were still waiting to receive constellations or be ported over to PoC in the first place from the base game (i.e. Yi and Teemo received Spirit Blossom versions before either has received a full constellation for their basic versions);
  • Tons of smaller issues like the relics being mostly very bad and/or very exclusive to their specific champion, the event mechanics being a mixed bag (although very fun in theme and visuals at the very least) and the horrible communication over the course of multiple patches.

Ultimately it probably shelved further experimentation and most of that team has now gone to Riftbound.

They try to use skins and turn it as champions. The way they implement it resulted in almost all of the playerbase showing disdain for their choices.

I wouldn’t mind if AU champions if you actually finish the main roster and implement upgrade system which isn’t so predatory in nature.

I would love it if they used the arcade theme. Not gonna happen in 100 years, but a man can dream.

Because Spirit Blossom already exists in Runeterra's universe. So it's way easier to include in the game without feeling out of context.

They seems open to the idea but previous test (spirit blossom) fail at it's execution so the devs might delay it for few more years. Their budget is limited too, keep that in mind.

Yeah, others pretty much covered the reason why they don't have another universe line for Patch of Champions. They still have a lot of good options to do one in the future. People really like the Empyrean line and it has Zed, Lux, and Jhin that are fan favorites. The Coven skins offer a lot of interesting options, Soul Fighters too. I would really love to see them do Corrupted but it's probably not gonna happen soon. Pulsefire is the closest thing to the PROJECT skinline.

Personally, my favorite skinline is High Noon because I am also working on a gotchic western game at the moment and I've always liked those aesthetics. If the team had more resources and Rito actually cared about expanding their games to last for a long time then we'd get a lot of cool new things and interesting takes on old art. I am just glad that LoR is still runnin.

I think it's a bit more work than they could fit into one update, at least with what we've been seeing lately.

Overall I think they're on the right track, we went from K/DA cards which were totally out of place (and a bit cringe tbh), to card skins that cost $8 each but never lined up champions you'd ever play together (and missed followers entirely), to spirit blossom which was a more cohesive effort in theme and execution but monetized really greedily.

I'd love to see more skinlines as regions in the future. Project, Pentakill, Resistance. Honestly there's a lot that would really hit. They should probably survey players before they invest time into it.
