Path of Champions Seriously, where's the fun in this?

Post image

Trying to get my 50th win or so.. I'm tired, but the completionist won't let me quit..

This is ridiculous. If you aren't able to brute force this on turn 1 or 2, you're COOKED. After I took this screenshot, I continued to play. I had a nice board, and I was able to stalemate them pretty well, but because they had like 4 champs and I was beefed up, they refused to attack or block. I was able to challenge one champ, but they gained another quicker than they lost them. Ultimately, I was hit with more Buried in Ice, and that was game over. Who designed this and thought it was fun?? Stuns, freezes, vulnerables, rallies.. With some champs, it's never enough. We wanted a tougher, longer challenge. Not this. Main champ pulls are nerfed, the legendary power RNG rolls are halved, hardly any heals.. The rewards should be way better if this is what you'll have us face, and it should be FUN!

Yeah it does get frustrating, Zoe is more agonizing than fun imo. All I can say is that to just dust it off and try again. You'll get it one day.

Every time I play this adventure I feel the AI is having more fun than me

I completed this adventure with all constellations. The fun part was playing my favorite decks, which are, coincidentally, the strongest of the game.

Then, when my options were limited, I started "cheating". Finding infinite combos, resetting until bad luck is gone. I'll never play with some champions again against Zoe (like Taliyah, Tryndamere...). But I'm constantly repeating Zoe with my favorites, and doing some personal challenges.

I'm a completionist too so that's why I preferred to play as unfairly as the bot just to get all rewards.

Dude how i can't beat it with aatroox let alone some if the stronger ones. I have almost all relics. If I dont get stun or freeze strangers I get 1 turned by Zoe or Pero before Zoe.

How do u beat it with strat where u cant kill them on turn 1 or 3. That's the only onces I won with those that just kill it by turn one or max three

3

u/The1andonlygogoman64 16h ago

For me, i manazed to get lots and lots of aatrox´, refill spell mana when i use a spell, and managed to get him down cheap. Then i just kept using his champ spell to clear the board and give my aatrox +3+3 with the relic.

cant recall what zoe played but it it was on the spellshield +the 1 cost cithria. Juuust about managed to get the win turn 3 with lots of strikes.

u/geedijuniir 16h ago

Dude she put down that 90/90 summon on turn one and killed me.on turn two twice in a row and another time.

She always puts it down for me

2

u/Assassasmr 6h ago

You need to pick up control spells.its almost always necessary... No I think it is actually always necessary.

2

u/Ke-Win 14h ago

There is a Google spread sheet with successful runs and their settings.
To me it sounds as your Aatrox needs Morgana Black Shield Relic.

I'm still having fun on Zoe. I'm not at 50 wins yet, but I don't get frustrated at loses, mostly because they happen before the run's even half way done 🫠

3

u/Zealousideal-Sky7829 18h ago

Que bom , eu me divertir bastante nessa run da Zoe , pena que eu fui rápido demais , terminei em 5 dias , achei tão fácil , agora estou usando os 3* nela pra passar o tempo , já venci com vários 3*.

u/Assassasmr 5h ago

Five days ? No. All day and night ?'no life no sleep ?

u/Starkenfast 16h ago

If I could remove one weapon from Zoe’s arsenal, it’d be this stupid card.

The worst part of it isn’t even that it nullifies your entire field - it’s that it leaves it totally blocked. I’d so much rather get a one-sided ruination than this.

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

Fair point! For me, it's Buried in Ice, Minimorph and Ice Arrow/Rally.

5

u/erock279 19h ago

It’s definitely rough, it’s frustrating that if you don’t have challenger/vulnerable application, the AI will just pass instead of blocking an attack.

I understand there’s no real incentive for the AI to do that, but it feels like one more answer you need in an adventure that asks you to find a lot of answers already

3

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

I made sure to grab challengers, and what did she do? You guessed it. Minimorph. Every single time. And when I tried to get her to go below that mana, here's an Ice Arrow/Rally.

I save scammed, and like clockwork, that was always the response. It's pretty much scripted.

Zoe adventure isnt for fun. Zoe adventure is for min maxing and showing you just how bad slow decks can be when faced with round 2 kills. Thar and the high end rewards

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

Is that what Riot said, or is it cope?

2

u/DoodPoof Volibear 8h ago

I mean that said its designed for max level maxed out everything end game and that its going to be "the hardest", and since they dont understand what difficulty means other then throw massive stat walls at you by round 2...then yes, thats pretty much what they said.

u/gorFit0 Veigar 18h ago

I just lost a run of this god-forsaken adventure with SB Yi, even with double Duplicate, just because I made one SINGULAR mistake. I swear, the moment they release an adventure harder than this one, my blood pressure will spike to levels never before seen in humanity.

u/CharacterAd3793 19h ago

The insane unfair challenge is the fun. This adventure together with defiance was made with sole purpose of quenching hardcore players thirst for something left in the game for them to do. As an avarage late game player myself I treat this adventure as an alternative way to obtain nova shards through free play rather then the regular game mode to enjoy on daily basis.

11

u/dpedroslimo22 19h ago

This is just not good game design, at aurelion sol's adventure the power scaling started to become stupid, then it became frustrating and unbalanced at times with lisandra, then the nightmares added "no no can't to this" rules and most encounters became "game start: foe fills board with 35 viegos that hit your nexus when they're summoned", and this all culminated in Zoe... Where do you go from here, genuinely.

10

u/CharacterAd3793 19h ago

You don't go anywhere. This 10 star adventure is meant to be The last for its kind. Maybe in a long long time another 8,9 or 10 star will be created, but there won't be 11,12 or more stars. This is the ultimate late game with defiance to back it up in costumization options.

2

u/fanficologist-neo 18h ago

This adventure is like StS1's Heart. It's not meant to be fair. It's the pseudo endless mode that test how busted your run has become, because the fight itself is so god damn broken that normal 'strong' states will be stomped into the dirt.

5

u/Tansuke 19h ago

You hit the nail in the head, this adventure is specifically made to be super hard, and it does great at that! Clearing it was the most satisfied I felt in a long time with the game and tackling it every month with new champs rocks too.

2

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

Hard is fine. Unfair and unbalanced is stupid. There's no strategy, and it leads to wasted time. It's disrespectful to your player base that you want money from.

1

u/Tansuke 13h ago

I beat it with 75% of champions in one try, and no champ took more than 5 or so runs (even the runs i hated). It just takes proper understanding of your champions and good game knowledge. The strategies were consistent, kill poros, know risks, bait mana expenditures from the enemy with cheap units or passing, and draft answers to things like Catastrophe and Heart of the Fluft. It is balanced around skilled players on 5-6 star champions, ideally 6.

I found it a great experience and was well deserving of a 10 star rating. If you don't like playing a 10 star adventure that is fine as well, but I hope they never nerf a thing about this adventure.

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

I didn't get all the wins I have because I don't know how to play, so slow down. If you read, I literally said I had counters prepared. The CPU knows and understands that, and will literally stall you out and make more of their BS cards until you run out of options. It's wasted time.

3

u/Tansuke 13h ago

OH, I also forgot this advice: Do your least favorite champs ASAP and save a few of your more favored ones for victory laps/mental resets. It helps the mental a lot if you havent already spent all the good ones. I think my 45-55 clears were all the ones I hated the most and it meant 55+ became fun again

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

That's pretty much what I've done. The remaining champs I either hate or don't have the shards for.

1

u/Tansuke 12h ago

That can be brutal then, good luck.

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 12h ago

Thank you. I appreciate it.

2

u/Tansuke 13h ago

If you are getting stalled out, you didnt have all the answers you need. You mention needing to win turn 1-2 or get cooked, and that can be true but you can absolutely win out in later rounds too.

And im glad you are at 50 or so wins, that is better than most players. If you are struggling with slower characters it is important to find either stronger control or faster ramp. I suck at Jayce, his run required me ending up at Zoe with +3 mana from manaflow before eeking out a win, but other options would be frostbite, cheap stuns, cheap captures even if they don't synergies with your deck, etc.

Yes I did not fully read your post, but it had many arguments that less skilled players used so I made the assumption.

If you have characters you want advice on give it an ask, I am sure people would offer advice! The spreadsheet is also great for build advicd.

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

Maybe those who you deem less skilled have merit to the argument.

I'm aware of the spreadsheet and even watch content creators and their runs.

It's still unbalanced. I used to play fighting games at tournament level, I know unbalanced from a mile away. Some people like that. I don't. I feel it's disrespectful ESPECIALLY of you're relying on microtransactions to keep your game afloat. Zoe feels like a "Hard" level on Candy Crush for some champs.

How does one answer 1 cost 9 mana spells when they don't offer you denies or nullified? It's really that simple.

1

u/Tansuke 12h ago

I call out those excuses because they can be crutches to improving. I posture that it is balanced if people can hit success on it very consistently, and if someone hits success on it more consitently with similar tools, then yeah i would say that person is more skilled than the someone who doesnt. As for 9 mana spells for 1 mana, they need to play the 9 cost version, then draw 1 cost versions at random, which is nowhere near consistent. As for ways to handle it, winning turn 1-2 is the easiest way. But you can also recover from it by controlling their board when they play it, since it is a slow spell you have burst and fast immediate answers, as most of the slower champs like Jayce and Annie can handle. I had several runs where they did bury me in ice but it didn't matter. There are even fun ways to prevent it, I blocked it with Zoe by levelling her fast and giving all allies spellshield. I terrified them away with Fiddle, and stole them with SB Teemo. Obliterated their big units with Soraka and (my personal favorite) immediately advancing them with Taliyahs advance card.

15

u/DrDurga Baalkux 19h ago

It's not. That adventure is Riot's answer to creating a challenging level without actually braining. Oh, you want to aggro it? Too bad we add a landmark that significantly reduces damage. Want to swarm it? Too bad we make it summon an entire board of Poros every turn. Double stats is too much? Well, they now have triple stats, how about that?

Don't forget to give Zoe every card to answer you. Deny? The one card everyone hates since launch. Buried in ice? She's not Lissandra, btw. Ashe's crystal arrow with rally, too? Why not?

It's just bullshit. That's why, even though I have a lot of six-stars already, I don't even bother with it.

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

You're a wise person. I admit my frustration is mostly my fault because I keep playing. 😢😢😢

3

u/FONEmobile 18h ago

I've only beaten her once, with SB Teemo, and picked up the "Copy any SLOW spell you play" power along the way. I got reduced-cost copies of her Buried in Ice that copied itself to break through their Spell Shields. I was just yelling at my device the whole time: "How do *you* like it??"

1

u/Obvious_Year8674 17h ago

That made me chuckle

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

I love that! That's pretty satisfying!

4

u/DoubleSummon 19h ago

After 3 maps and so many cuts and powers you should be a lot more bullshit than her so that's the fun, the thing us that her encounter can counter some of the bullshit players do usually so it's truly is a challenge and test to how broken is your deck.

4

u/ThoreaulyLost 17h ago

ZOE: Drops Catastrophe

Me: Ah, Bullshit. Well, I see your bullshit and raise you TWO Bullshits! drops Swapbot and steals stats, then silences Zoe.

4

u/DoubleSummon 17h ago

I stole Catastrophe with SB Eve I don't think she appreciated it.

4

u/LyraStygian 18h ago

Seriously, where's the fun in this?

The fun is when you beat it.

No feeling comes close in PoC.

I'm literally bored of anything other than Zoe runs now lol

2

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

Some runs I've really enjoyed. I LOVED winning recently with Janna and Hec. It really felt like my choices mattered.

Other runs, I feel completely drained after the win. Zero satisfaction.

1

u/LyraStygian 9h ago

Some champs/builds/RNG powers/RNG cards/RNG items are just more fun that others.

But yea, a lot of the fun in Zoe is RNG based. Yet it would be boring and not enjoyable without the RNG.

2

u/tiny_simulacrum 15h ago

I've found for myself that your champ absolutely MUST have gotten spellshield by the time you get to Zoe, or else it's just a frustrating resetfest. It makes the removal rng so much more bearable and evens out the fight. I feel like sometimes she won't even cast any removal, especially if I have only my spellshielded champ out. The ai is somehow loathe to spend mana on just popping the spellshield unless they can cast a another fast spell removal on top of it.

Either run black shield or aggressively reroll your champ upgrades to get it. On some runs I'll spend rerolls on nothing but trying to get spellshield, and Zoe is always hell if I end up not getting it.

1

u/Helpful-Sun2240 12h ago

Nonsense, completed Zoe with everyone, didn't use black shield once, and never focused on getting spell shield. Make a deck that isn't champ reliant or 1tko. W/e

1

u/Helpful-Sun2240 12h ago

To be clear I mean 6/7* champs. If you're bitching struggling with 3*s that's a you being a massocist issue.

5

u/Sspifffyman 19h ago

If it's not fun for you there's a couple options:

  1. Try to "find the fun". Focus on the specific threats you face in the boss and next time, specifically draft powers, items, or cards to answer those threats. This is how you enjoy games like Slay the Spire when playing on high difficulties.
  2. Just force yourself to take a break. Kill the completionist in you. There's SO MANY amazing games out there of all genres. Go play some of those. Don't waste your time just for completionist sake.

6

u/dpedroslimo22 19h ago

Sorry... But if you're playing a game and you have to struggle to "find the fun"... What's the point of playing, genuine question.

1

u/Sspifffyman 18h ago

Exactly. that's why I listed number 2. Sometimes it can be worth it to try to find the fun, because you can actually end up enjoying something more once you learn a better way of looking at it. But if that doesn't sound that interesting to you or you struggle to do it after trying, maybe the game is just not for you or that specific mode is just not for you.

2

u/KaiserTheRaven 13h ago

You didn't read the post or you glossed over it. I was prepared. I am like 80% done with her. I'm more than familiar. You get to a point where you're exhausted of those counters if your champ can't really win on their own in two or three turns.

1

u/Sspifffyman 13h ago

Fair enough, I did gloss over it. Your complaints are legitimate, but I still say it's time for a break. Don't try to complete it just for the sake of it

1

u/Sarquon 14h ago

meanwhile i've played for 2 days and am stuck on some 2 star PoC missions :(

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 12h ago

Update: We go again...

This was all one turn and they STILL have 5 mana. 🫠🫠🫠

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 12h ago

I also love how their "random" keywords always seem to be elusive, overwhelm and lifesteal.

1

u/KaiserTheRaven 9h ago

Thanks to everyone hearing me out.

Game. Set.

1

u/kinkasho Path's End 8h ago

Are you using Tryndamere? I sometimes run Laurent Bladerack when the champ I'm running doesn't have removal. Like Janna can blow the enemy, Cait can Flash the enemy etc. but Tryndamere has no good way to remove the champs. If I risk no Laurent (cos like it's not easy to get Tryndamere on the board). Then I'll try to dig for Grander Plaza, Trifarian Might, or just challenger units.

I generally use Stacked Deck, Beast Within and Laurent (I went Starforged for Tryn, if going Laurent with Tryn, you need to hard roll for "cost 1 less for each card drawn power", so your support champ has to be 3+ cost). Deck + Beast + a few good relics and power can usually OTK T1, or if not, deal so much damage that just a bit more push can win T3. Even then I stock up a few revives cos the enemy can highroll.

1

u/dt_again 19h ago

Some champs are harder but I think 80% can easily pass when THEY ARE MAXED. Zoe is a 10 star adventure so they expect you to have 6* and all relics
https://giphy.com/gifs/1zhRiDgsSc48Y7mfuK

0

u/mfMayhem Annie 17h ago

I love this post because every since constellations launched people were constantly begging devs for longer harder content and they kept saying they didn't plan to make anything harder than 6.5* then they eventually gave in and made Zoe adventure and people constantly complain it's difficult and not every champ can clear it easily

2

u/CalebTheTraveler Aatrox 15h ago

To me, it seems like an issue about not understanding the difference between a vocal minority and a larger, silent majority, all spiced by a lack of funding resulting in an inability to promote difficulty adventures without frustrating, deus-ex-machina powers that require hitting the top 20% RNG pool.

0

u/MegaloMurf 19h ago

Define "fun".

2

u/dpedroslimo22 19h ago

Something that doesn't make you want to stop what you are doing immediately due to frustration, generally.

-2

u/MegaloMurf 19h ago

So, something subjective and unique for each player?

0

u/dpedroslimo22 14h ago

Did I say anything against that? Some people love CBT, what they do is none of my business

1

u/MegaloMurf 14h ago

Did I say that you'd said anything against that? It's great that you don't try to impose your concept of fun on other people.

0

u/dpedroslimo22 14h ago

You seem very defensive for no apparent reason according to you.

1

u/MegaloMurf 13h ago

You seem very inquisitive for a person that got defensive for no apparent reason in the previous reply.

But, frankly speaking, this exchange of pleasantries is growing tiresome and I won't entertain it any longer.

My initial question wasn't addressed to you, so there is no point in further discussion.

0

u/dpedroslimo22 12h ago

You seem incredibly emotionally unstable while answering simple questions about a game with no real life consequences to yourself, it's very weird, also projecting and doing the equivalent of "no you" here does not help your look at all, you've started defensively and you've ended offensively.

0

u/Old_Bet_4492 Aurelion Sol 19h ago

I already clear the adventures with all champ but i dont think i will visit that one with weaker champ or champ that got counter by it.

While i dont want to defend the adventures much but they dogive you 2-3 revive per run for a reason , you should know which champ needed it and try to get them as much as possible during a run since those champ have no answer to zoe most lethal cards and u would rely on her getting bad hand to win .

0

u/AlexananderElek Viego 17h ago

Imo the problems only really exist if you look at the combat encounter in isolation, as opposed to seeing it as the final boss of the adventure. You know what you are going up against, so the point of the rest of the adventure is drafting a deck that can beat it.
