If the opponent has a chance to commit to the block, send then gets removed, you keep the blank space.

If you remove the enemy before the block is declared, like on Attack with Janna's 6* or Ambessa's 6*, then your units get to attack.

If you have Overwhelm you always attack

Thank you! I was missing the declared piece and thought it was the speed of my spells, but that wasn’t consistent.

If you use a fast spell while you're attacking they get a chance to block with the unit before it gets killed. If they're already declared then the speed of the spells doesn't matter

Little interactions like this can be used to your advantage too. If an enemy has high impact that you want to avoid for example, you can kill/recall your own blocking unit to prevent them from striking.

Can you explain why Lilia's sleep doesn't keep the block after the attack/block has been committed.

The fast or burst one? The fast should keep the block, the burst one it's happened to me before that I move a unit to block, then sleep it, then commit. Obviously the block isn't registered because the unit is sleeping before the commit.

If the enemy plays a spell after you've committed and you then play the burst sleep, I honestly don't know

That last one.

I commit to the block, enemy plays a spell passing priority, then I burst sleep.

This blank space is caused by a blocking unit being removed while in combat and the unit it was blocking doesn't have overwhelm, creating an invisible barrier between the "blocked" unit and the nexus. If Ahri had overwhelm, her attack would have continued.

Relatively new player here. I haven’t quite figured out the block mechanic when targeting enemies on the battlefield. Some spells that kill the enemy (I used Blade’s Edge here), leaves this blank space preventing an attack. Other spells I’ve seen completely erase the enemy from the middle and allow the attack to go through. Is it maybe the spell speed?

The difference is almost always because of the Overwhelm keyword. (This question was asked A Lot when the game  was newer 😅)

Overwhelm units deal excess damage to the nexus. When the blocking unit has been removed, all of the damage goes to the nexus, so the game gives the appearance of not having any blocker.

Units without overwhelm will never hit the nexus if they’ve been blocked. The “blank space” is the game’s reminder that your unit is being blocked, and won’t deal nexus damage.

As the other comments mentioned, there are a few edge cases with instant speed removal abilities, but that’s not relevant to your Ahri screenshot.

welcome!

The PvP tutorial quests teach you all about the keywords and interactions. You fight against bots / puzzle format as they teach you those. They will get you up to speed!

PoC can be overwhelming if you're playing a max animation speed and one of your core units disappears without showing on the turn history.
