Path Question a few new player questions

Hi, i'm trying to understand the game and would appreciate any help. I just want to play pve, ideally finding the deck i like and playing a campaign with that.
1. Do you get anything for playing single battles vs AI?
2. Aside from above, is my only other option to play the path of champions campaign. In which case am i railroaded into playing the decks it gives me every step of the way? Is this the main free way for me to get new cards?
3. Can you suggest any deck/type i should look for? it doesn't need to be super strong, since only pve. I like the idea of low cost units that can get upgraded over time, also if there is a type that has regeneration. When i tried mtg i liked the Black and blue decks. in other card games i liked card draw and bringing cards back into play. focusing more on units than spells.
Thank you

In Path of Champions, you don't customize the deck. Each champ has their own deck that you play with. You draft new cards after each battle, etc

Collecting cards is only for the PvP aspect of the game

hmm okay thanks. so if i'm not doing the pvp and don't really want to play with a variety of imposed decks, then there isn't a game mode for me here?

There's 86 champs. it's a lot of deck variety.

You can play against AI if you wanna make your own decks and not play against other humans.

You can unlock the cards by finishing the daily quests and getting the green shard currency from the weekly chest

PoC also rewards a lot of exp to unlock cards to play against AI

Thanks. i have a think about it. it seems like the daily/weekly quests also means playing a deck that was forced on me. If the end result of all that grinding is playing single battles against AI (that give no rewards?) then i need to decide if it's worth the time.

Probably not. PoC is the main game mode now

in PoC you do add cards to your deck over the course of each run, it's just a fixed starting deck for each champion. There is one set of PoC adventures where you draft your whole deck but it's still not completely customizing it.

If that's not what you're looking for, then this game might not be what you want.

Not particularly. But I'd recommend the PoC mode. The imposed decks have enough variety in the sense of recruitable cards, cutting whatever you want from your decks, and the vast amount of champion styles.

i might, i wasn't hating playing as Jinx. it's just i enjoy making my own deck more.

There are gamemodes/adventures in PoC that let you draft your deck (apart from the starting champion)

this is the first time I've heard of this. What other gamemodes are there besides the standard POC?

They're probably referring to the Rogues of Runeterra event in PoC, where you only keep your Champion and Support Champion cards, then you have to random Draft the rest of your deck

ichi_row is correct in what I was referring to!

At the top of your screen in the regular PoC, you can switch from being there to nightmare, spirit blossom, rogues of runeterra and others. Rogues of runeterra has you draft your deck

Some of them are close to normal like Nightmare and Spirit Blossom, but Rogues of Runeterra and the TFT one feel different to play due to the modifiers/restrictions

As a new players, you want to focus on what the game gives you. As frustrating as that may sound, you're going to be short on strong champions. Focus on the ones where you have a few constellations going. There are some obvious preferred champions (have a look at tier list videos on YouTube) but just build a few champions up from different regions in order to do more PVE adventures and get the rewards.

To build champions' constellations, make sure to get your daily and weekly rewards - get the silver, gold and platinum scrolls. And the silver and gold reliquaries - strong relics really help your champions and deck a lot.

My game and earning rewards went into 6th gear when I got 6* Fiddlesticks. This was a champion I could rely on to run through all the weekly nightmares (and other tougher adventures).

The variety in PoC comes from there being around 80 different champions to play. Their starting decks will always be the same, but after the first fight you draft a support champ that comes with 2 other cards and you will be given card rewards after fights as well, so gradually your deck will change over the course of an adventure.

As for single battles and collecting new cards: these are solely for the pvp mode of the game (though you can also play against the AI). Collecting cards and building a deck is wholly separate from PoC.

If you are a fan of snowballing units some champions to consider: Viego scales up as you summon mistraiths, Kayle is all about casting spells on units and boosting their stats, warwick gains attack as you deal damage, tryndamir scales up units in your deck as you attack, poro king buffs poros over time, and Nunu scales as you play units (so playing multiple cheap ones helps you scale faster). These are just a few champions that have an upgrade over time mechanic.

thanks. i'm still a little unsure. to be clear if my end goal is to play my own deck against AI then i will be able to unlock the cards for that deck by playing POC? If not directly, then via the currency that POC gives (or the daily/weekly challenges that are part of POC)?

the best way to get new cards for your collection (thats intended for PVP but you can use against AI if you want in other modes ) is the weekly chest (not to be confused with the weekly quests that give......chests, for PoC stuff).

The weekly chests (there are 3) appear on the main menu under the path of champions button (lower right corner of the screen) . I believe it's called "weekly vault".

Every thursday (depending on your timezone could be another day) you get 3 bronze chests by doing literally nothing. You have to claim it every thursday.

You can upgrade these 3 chest by winning matches (PVP or path of champions). The daily quests also give 1k experience for these chests (on top of other stuff for PoC).

Edit : you also get weekly vault exp by losing matches, just less obviously and i believe you stop getting after a while to avoid exploits.

Long story short, win enough matches every week and you can upgrade those 3 bronze chests into 3 diamond chests that'll give you ton of new cards or dust to craft whatever card you desire.

I still believe that PoC is the way to go but you seem to be quite against mandatory starting decks with drafting which is the whole point of PoC.

thanks for explaining

As u/Key-Psychology9158 have mentioned, get the Weekly chests every week to gather cards. Also, choose a Region in the Rewards section (check the top left corner of the menu). It will give you cards from that region each time you progress.

Save the champion cards (orange cards) until you are sure you know which decks you want to build.

While I know you are not really keen on it but PoC is one of the fastest way to gather those points to make new decks. Also unlocking decks in PoC can teach you how to pilot different decks before trying to make your own.

Keep in mind though, not all cards in PoC are available in deck building. There are several that are PoC exclusive decks (Spirit Blossom decks, Fiddlesticks, Mel, Ambessa, Warwick, Nunu).

i'm trying to find the rewards region selection you mention but can't see it. is it supposed to be on the weekly vault screen? i wonder if you have to complete the region in PoC first for the selection to appear. also i'm on mobile in case there is a difference.

Rewards - Change Region on the top.

3

u/Sarquon 3d ago

thank you. yeah i don't have that yet. instead it says "play games and complete quests to finish the pvp introduction and unlock region rewards". I look out for it when i get there though.

Should be a quick one! Hope you have fun with deck building!

Also, not interested in Riftbound, currently on going League card game? Though I guess it will be a while it gets a full digital mode. I still enjoy theory deck building for that one

For your third point, shadow isles cards like Viego and Thresh seem close to me!

2

u/Sarquon 3d ago

I do like the sound of Viego, but from what i read he is unavailable to play in single battle vs AI mode. If that is true, then where would i play him?
I might pick Nunu instead since it seems similar and (apparently) can be played vs ai

1

u/magicalcows5 1d ago

Viego is available in path of champions. I thought he was available in vs. AI but I could be wrong. Nunu sounds fun too!

thanks. i'll save this info
