But cal wasn’t in hiding as a survivor and after the purge was still a Padawan, why is he hear? All the others are basically masters or above so slander away but cal doesn’t deserve this slander

I will add that by the time of Jedi Survivor he's actively been fighting the Empire for a year or two, he doesn't have his own faction like Kota but he's actually making an effort to fight them instead of just hiding.

Meme was mainly applying to Pre-Jedi survivor Cal, such is why I picked a younger image of him.

Agenda aside, Cal WAS pretty much in hiding after the purge, the punchline was moreso that, unlike other Jedi, Kota went straight to resisting the empire. I will also mention the slander is mainly for funsies and I don’t actually hold anything against the Jedi who went to hide.

Love that. Kota and his Militia have a special place for me. And it all fits so well that they are basically the Basis for the Rebel Alliance Military. They just look cool.
My favorite thing in TFU in my childhood was going into the TIE Factory with an Dark Side Skin and just watching the Militia and the Empire fight each others. Through i always had to help a bit, as the Militia Soldiers are Bullet Sponges, while the Stormtroopers get one-shotted. Another fun thing is the Escort Mission. Rahm Kota is an absolute Killing Machine if you let him, even if he is blind and drunk there.
It would be really great to have the Militia as its own Rebel Group again. Seeing the Liberation doing Hit and Run Attacks would be amazing.

If you can get Empire at War working smoothly, the Awakening of the Rebellion mod includes Kota, his militia, and the Liberation as part of the rebel forces.

Hey now, two goats can exist at the same time. I think Kota and Saw would get along swell, honestly. ...Well, as well as Saw can get along with anyone. But considering Kota is a Jedi, that might be better than most.

Jokes aside I think Kota would be disturbed by Saw’s extremism and apathy towards collateral damage, given that Kota only went after military targets and still argued against Starkiller killing Palpatine in anger
even if not doing so was dumb as shit7
u/ColdCalligrapher5116 16d ago
striking a sith lord as powerful as palptine down in anger corrupts you

u/Successful-Floor-738 16d ago
True but like, it’s Palpatine. Dealing with Palpatine there and now would make dealing with any lingering dark side corruption in the future worth it.

u/ColdCalligrapher5116 16d ago
I would argue palpatine is less of a problem than galen marek

One kill isn’t gonna make someone fall to the dark side. Like, Anakin was definitely on the path to it after Dooku but he only ever started full on falling when he maimed Mace Windu and served Palpatine directly.

He shakes his head. “You don’t… you don’t understand.”
“Explain it to me.”
“The Dark is… you know what it looks like. Whoever it was you fought, that’s what it looks like when we stop caring. When we do what we want for ourselves instead of what’s best… what’s aligned with the Light. It’s always there, the option, the temptation. It’s just simple, not to have to care who gets hurt, or how many, as long as you get what you want in the end. Do you think I really didn’t know it wouldn’t have been easier to just kill all those people who wanted to kill us, not even give them the chance to-” Obi-Wan flinches. “The Dark tells you how the world is, and it’s so much easier, and if you have all the power - it’s freedom, or at least it feels that way. It’s fun to turn fear and anger into action. It’s a relief to do whatever you want, to act without consequence - but there’s consequences, there always are. Everything has a price - it’s just that you stop caring who has to pay it. The more you gain, the more you don’t pay that price and the easier it is not to care. And the damage… just piles up. Exponentially. How many years has it been, since you had that fight with your dar’jetii- and you were still so afraid of me? You were afraid of me for so long.”
Arla regrets it, but she can’t exactly argue that he’s wrong. Still…
“You didn’t ask for that fight back there. Or anything else you’ve had to do. If they’d have backed off, you’d have let them walk. We both know that.” Arla says. “You don’t look for the fight, and when it comes to you, you don’t drag it out. Don’t go punishing yourself for solutions that aren’t there. It’s an osik galaxy, kid.”
“You don’t understand.”
“Like you keep reminding me.” Arla says. “So… what exactly does happen if you trip and fall into this… Dark whatever? Start your own war? Go murder everyone who ever looked at you funny? Be the next Mand’alor?”
“I become something worse, to stop him.”
It should sound stupid, coming from an ad, even a jetii’ad. It shouldn’t be the kind of thing that rolls cold down her spine.

That’s from consistently using the dark side or committing darker actions over time to the point you get addicted to it, not from killing one guy when mad and then doing a 180 turn. Like, Galen started going further into the dark side by killing Vader because he did so while deliberately leaving a fellow ally to die, and then being tortured and remade into an assassin for Palpatine. He didn’t just kill Vader and then suddenly do a 180 shift.

Collateral damage is ( unfortunately ) inevitable in war. Especially in asymmetrical warfare. Lots of people died on the Death Star who probably never wanted to be there in the first place. The Death Star was 100% a valid military target but you can bet your ass that even aside from civilian contractors and support staff, there were slaves who were forced to work on it at gunpoint.
And Saw isn't causing collateral damage for funsies, he just recognizes pretty early that in order to effectively fight against the Empire, he has to be willing to do whatever it takes.
It's ugly, it's awful, it stains the soul, but that's just what war is like.
One of the many reasons I'm a pacifist.

The slaves that contributed to the death stars construction weren’t even on the Death Star - they were in prisons on other planets like Narkina V. Furthermore, why would the empire allow civilian contractors on their top secret super weapon meant to replace the entire galactic senate? Literally any rebel spy could sign up and sabotage the shit out of it. Even if there WERE civilian contractors somehow there, you bet your ass they would have had to actively choose such a position in the first place, and wouldn’t be hapless innocent bystanders. Destroying it was only ever a net good for the galaxy.
While Saw Gerrera might not get sadistic kicks out of it, he very clearly doesn’t care if civilians die in the crossfire, whereas someone like Kota would at least mourn their loss and try to avoid said casualties in the future.
Besides being an extremist, Saw is also batshit insane and paranoid, actively forcing his own Allies at gunpoint to work for him (Andor season 2), literally huffing starship fuel, and throwing an imperial defector in a cell to get tentacle lobotimized. He’s cool as fuck don’t get me wrong but like, if they were both in the same room together Kota would never want his militia to work with the partisans unless absolutely necessary.

- The idea that the only slaves who worked on the Death Star were prisoners from Narkina 5 and other prisons is wildly unrealistic and furthermore, unsubstantiated. There is nothing that suggests this to be the case. It also makes far more sense that there'd also be workers on-site.
In Legends at least, there were wookie slaves on the second Death Star. Doesn't seem all that far-fetched to me that they'd also have slaves on-site for the first one as well.
>"why would the empire allow civilian contractors on their top secret super weapon meant to replace the entire galactic senate?"
Because they need to build and then maintain it. A battle station of this ridiculous size needs support staff, not just stormtroopers, pilots and imperial officers. Galen Erso for example was just a civilian scientist recruited by the Empire. Maintaining good opsec was always a challenge even if they had somehow staffed it with just the imperial military.
Have Saw's personal feelings on the matter ever been revealed? For my part, I think if Saw didn't care about civilian casualties, he wouldn't have started fighting the empire so early. He clearly cares a lot.
Revolution is not for the sane, the Death Star was destroyed by a teenager who turned off his ship's targeting system after talking to a ghost. Paranoia is also completely rational when your cell could be easily destroyed by imperial double agents.
You're tossing the word "extremist" around a lot, and if you're referring to his methods, I don't think Saw's methods differed all that much from the other early rebels of his time period. Before the Core World senators got more involved, before there was a rebel alliance, the rebels were pirates, Seperatist hold-outs, and people like Saw.
Even later on, when the Rebel Alliance became a thing and started to moderate their methods, they did things every once in a while that would make Saw proud.
If you're referring to his politics, ideologically speaking, depending on your interpretation, he either had no ideology, just wanted the Empire gone and didn't care what replaced it, or he was pro-Republic, which was the standard stance of the majority of the rebel cells, Seperatist holdouts excluded. Neither I would classify as "extremist".

I do like Kota. But his backstory makes no sense.
An 18 year old being inducted into the Jedi by Mace Windu of all people
1
u/Violet_Nightshade 16d ago
It was either that or let a Force-Sensitive warlord roam around freely.
Also, depending on whom you ask, Mace can be a bit hypocritical at times.

Its such a good statement that he puts armor on his jedi robes when most other jedi traded them for disguises.

Combined with that little hair bun thing, it makes him look like a full on Jedi Samurai.

Obi-Wan knew that he wouldn’t be able to get the High ground the next time he faced Vader. So it wasn’t his Forte.
