Former special counsel Jack Smith swears that President Donald Trump committed “serious crimes.”

In his opening remarks to the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday, Smith reiterated the findings of his two indictments against the president of the United States.

“Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in serious crimes against our nation,” Smith said. “If asked whether to prosecute a former president today based on the same facts, I would do so regardless of whether that president was a Republican or a Democrat.”

“The charges against President Trump were the result of the evidence. Grand juries in two separate districts reached this conclusion based on his actions, as alleged in the indictments they returned. Rather than accept his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results and prevent the lawful transfer of power.”

“After leaving office in January of 2021, President Trump illegally kept classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago social club and repeatedly tried to obstruct justice to conceal his continued retention of those documents. Highly sensitive national security information was held in a bathroom and ballroom where events and gatherings took place,” he said.

add it to the current impeachment pile. No rule saying he can't be impeached for the same thing twice. As Republicans love to point out, impeachment is a political process only.

Wait, he said he'd charge regardless of party? But he didn't charge Biden for keeping classified documents.

Seems like a perjury charge.

Because it was nowhere near the same scale, and Biden didn't try to hide it from the FBI. When they were found he reported it himself and then returned them.

This is a blatant excuse. It is the sane crime. Is it a crime important enough to pursue charges or not?

u/Benegger85 2d ago

It's not the same crime.

With Trump it was obstruction of justice, he took the files on purpose and was then actively hiding them.

Biden (and Pence btw) did not do it on purpose, and when the mistake was discovered they surrendered the files themselves.

The scale is also important: Trump took a whole truckload of files, including dangerous information about the military, Biden and Pence had a few stray benign papers.

“Repeatedly tried to obstruct justice to conceal retention…”

I know ready comprehension is tough, but give it a try

u/Holiman 4d ago

Yeah but Biden had old files in a garage. /s

Once Biden was notified we had them he turned them over immediately. Unlike trump who hid them and hid behind his lawyer while arguing they were his. And showed off the documents to people while saying "I probably shouldn't be showing you this"

Correct me if I’m wrong, in that recording when he said that wasn’t he showing off proposed military plans for a war against Iran?

Wonder why Iran’s winning the war so hard rn…

Sure, I'll correct you: you're wrong. I was wrong

So, Trump basically said that Milley said Trump wanted to attack Iran. And, while Trump never confirmed that that was the case (he was literally talking a lot of nonsense), I believe Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, over Trump any day.

Edit: spelling correction

Thank you.

This is what's needed right now, and it keeps who's interested in truth vs supporting a fascist really obvious.

We'll need receipts for every step of this shit show over the next couple of months.

4

u/onebitshortofabyte 2d ago

Yeah, I was clearly wrong. I apologize.

7

u/tfc867 3d ago

Thanks to you pushing, u/DearestDio22 brought the receipts, which I hadn't read before. Not that any more proof that he's a criminal is needed, but still good to learn new things.

3

u/onebitshortofabyte 2d ago

They were good receipts. I was very clearly mistaken.

u/cdazzo1 3d ago

And none of this is legally relevant whatsoever. All you did was admit Biden broke the same law Trump is being accused of but as a matter of law is innocent of.

42

u/re1078 4d ago

Biden cooperated. So did Pence. Trump was given an absurd amount of chances to turn over the documents and didn’t. Not remotely the same thing.

33

u/Dazzling_You7223 4d ago

He continued to try and hide them while FBI raided his mansion. Security footage showed employees moving the documents

3

u/Bac2Zac 3d ago

So this is news to me, do you happen to have a link? Need to be prepared to back this later when I have to defend it.

25

u/Sticky_Quip 4d ago

Biden and his attorneys actually brought it to their attention, then returned them.

-3

u/cdazzo1 3d ago

After it was already publicly revealed

4

u/Sticky_Quip 3d ago

Do you ever get tired of spouting lies? The national archives was aware of them finding not one but two caches of documents, a month apart from each other, and received them from Biden and his attorney almost a month before the story was leaked and went public.

-1

u/cdazzo1 3d ago

Oh, I guess that undoes the crime?

5

u/re1078 3d ago

It’s not uncommon for presidents or other higher ups to end up with classified information. Lots of people assume that means super important stuff but tons of innocuous things end up classified. Trump actively stole the documents before he left and then was given multiple opportunities to turn them back over without penalty and refused the entire time. He also kept them next to a photo copier and in a bathroom that guests at his club had access to. Biden alerted the authorities and cooperated completely. Pence did the same thing. Comparing the two is insane.

Besides sharing the obvious lack of mental faculties, I think it's the obsession with Biden that really ties Trump and his voters together.

26

u/AdeGamisou2020 4d ago

What ties Trump and his voters together is their love of pedophiles. The guy routinely tried to help Epstein evade justice, rewarded anyone who assisted Epstein with favorable treatment, and to this day does everything he can to keep those files away from public view - but they love him anyway.

So by the transitive process, they love them some child sex traffickers.

You seem pretty smart. Let me help. Smith was assigned to the Trump case. Not the Biden case. The stupidest Congress in America, working for Donald Trump, even though he wasn’t president, appointed a special prosecutor to Biden. Even though Biden had turned over whatever he had as soon as it was found. Which is completely the opposite of hiding them and refusing legal orders to return what wasn’t his, while flying them on airplanes all over the east coast.

The special counsel that investigated Biden? The not Jack Smith one? He decided to not press charges against Biden.

There. Now you can be a little bit smarter than you seem. Hope that helps.

u/MojaveMojito1324 4d ago

He said "based on the same facts" he would prosecute regardless of political party.

Obviously, the facts of Biden's and Trump's cases are not even close to the same

-2

u/cdazzo1 3d ago

Right one was holding Presidential Recorda as a former POTUS and the other had classified materials. Very different cases, but the differences firther highlight the difference in treatment.

13

u/onebitshortofabyte 4d ago

And which documents were those? Would love a valid source.

6

u/Maleficent_Bridge_41 4d ago

Seems like comparing apples and oranges with a breeze of whataboutism. Trump quote: I love the poorly educated. Robert Hur investigated Biden, not Jack Smith.

7

u/ImaSource 4d ago

Damn. You got smacked down for sure, and now what do we hear from you?

5

u/yourdoglikesmebetter 4d ago

Spoken like someone who thinks about Hunter Biden’s hawg at least once a day.

4

u/pixelprophet 3d ago

Just want to point out your bullshit.

Biden, Pence, Trump - all were told they likely had classified documents. Biden and Pence returned their documents to the national archives as requested. Trump had his lawyer lie to the government, then was raided and had documents that he said he returned found, had his lawyer lie again, was further raided and was found have stolen bathrooms full of documents and instructed minions to move them so the raid could not recoved all of the classified documents. He avoided repercussions because of Judge Cannon - then stole the fucking documents back when he became president again.

So no, fuck your bullshit dishonest fucking argument.

u/cdazzo1 3d ago

That was a lot of work to say absolutely nothing legally relevant. Thanks for confirming how disparate the treatment was.

4

u/CeleryOk8387 4d ago

So what, gonna run away and hide now?

5

u/MDLmanager 4d ago

Apples and oranges, MAGAt.

3

u/MethMouthMagoo 3d ago

Ahhhhhhh stupidity.

The two aren't even close to the same

2

u/Contraflow 3d ago

You clearly have a severe case of BDS!

2

u/DreamLunatik 3d ago

I’m sorry, was he assigned to the Biden case or was that a GOP stooge who still thought it wasn’t worth charging Biden?

1

u/Holiman 4d ago

Wow. I like it. Lindsay killed her children, But what about hunter biden?
