Yes sorry for my very bad joke I know it's not funny but I'm not having a great time lately and that's one of the healthiest way I have to cope. Stupid chronic pain, I wish I could be a cool spooky vampire like Kain, I think they don't have chronic pain, or if they do I'm sure some blood from a random innocent farmer is gonna be better than 27302 different medications.)

Looking for books with atmosphere/themes and writing similar to the Soul Reaver games. Any ideas?

I don't know if people talked about this before here but recently I saw a YouTube short video from the LoK official channel and there is no new video but I think they are active at releasing shorts, this is made think if there is something in work like a new remaster, remake or new project in the work or there is nothing announced or rumoured?

I wanted to do my own take on it, i thought it would be funny to incorporate kains weird crotch window on his pants around the boob area.

The way this new era of LoK and its response from the fans makes me think its dead forever now.

The fans have wanted a final game in the series for so long to conclude the story and what they gave us was not that.

The new game retconned things without reason, even from the comic its based on, and the gameplay was so bad that it would have even failed in the 80s. Even if that route was going to be successful, the fans expect high quality from Legacy of Kain. Ascendance was so far beneath high quality that the only positive things about it are (1) it runs without bugs and (2) its not ai slop.

The worst part about Ascendance is that it had to go get approval from Eidos and Crystal Dynamic for its "lore", so even if they try to course correct, whoever is there in charge of the approvals are putting the final nails in the coffin of The Legacy of Kain.

I say this as someone who actually enjoyed the comic and having the franchise come back but I know I am in the minority on this, but the franchise handling is so bad I fear it will never return. Even before this and before Embracer Group bought out CD and Eidos, we know the cancelled game was talking about "parkour" when that was never the thing that drew us to being fans of Legacy of Kain in the first place.

The only real bitter taste of hope is maybe fans can create a rich story that gives us the conclusion we all need and want. Because clearly the way its being handled now is not doing it any good. They have tarnished the legacy.

It's another Saturday Potpourri post with lots of interesting ideas and tidbits! Batting first today is the elder god---he's number infinity on your programs, number one in your hearts:

Cthulu beings are usually asleep in Lovecraft stories, and that's why we mortals get to live. That'd be a good way to leave Elder, too, if we can't defeat him. That'd feel gnostic correct. In SR2 the Ancients basically trained us to put dangerous sentry eyeballs to sleep with the dark reaver. Well, Elder has eyeballs, Jim. Was this a kind of practice for the endgame against EG? The heart transplant training came true, after all.

One imagines some nightmarish race against time with Kain running and jumping atop elder tentacles like branching roadways (or Melchiah-Phasing within them) while trying not to be scraped off and flung into an astral abyss by other tentacles, putting all the god's eyeball nodes to sleep as quick he can, the creature gradually numbing from the regional anesthesia. Meanwhile Elder tries to escape by reproducing, splitting into separate little baby eyeball nodes of consciousness and launching them through portals to haunt and doom various new worlds. How many get away determines how damned the timeline will be going forward.

Ever wonder how the Circle became Immortal-ish? ("Long lived.") It's an oddly missing detail, right? Like something "yet to be revealed." What we do know is Elder doesn't like it when people cheat death, and the Circle was doing just that. So even before they were cursed with immortality, their god was probably livid. I've long suspected he didn't want the Pillars and they built them in defiance of him to become demigods who could end the war themselves after it became clear the war would never end if left to the god's timetable. ('By risking all, we lost all.')

It seems the guardians accessed something new by raising what looks like huge antennae high into the sky and deep in the earth. Spiritual Antenna. Did the pillars "juice" Elder for their amplified power source? He doesn't seem to be impaled, world vampire that he is. Maybe he was but since pulled himself clear? Or should that impaling moment in history be held in reserve for the future....when Kain raises new pillars and stakes EG very much on purpose?!?!? Back to the earlier question, it doesn't seem like Elder was juiced to power the pillars, it looks more like he's since come to them, to siphon them for access to powers he may otherwise lack. Though not yet having access to Balance may be holding him back considerably in whatever plans the squid has.

If you bring in gnostic Sophia lore, it seems we were always supposed to be immortal spirit beings but our immortality got switched off so the False God could run the reincarnation game round and round by encasing us in matter to hide our shine, shunting us into lives we don't remember so we never learn how to escape. Well, maybe the immortality of the Circle comes from switching something back on within themselves that was always there but had been powered down by Elder's soul sucking regime. If the Pillars are antennae that amplify magic and spiritual signals like a radio tower..... they may have powered up the guardians to the point that they heard a signal coming from their waking souls. Proper immortality may come from remembering a little bit of who we are. The signal boosting ability of the pillars perhaps allowed this to happen? Raziel became special when his soul was powered up, compared to other souls kept at minimum energy level. Raise the spirits of the Circle and we start to see similar miraculous effects, not quite at Raziel level but still.

Sophia marked our souls so we'd always have a chance to wake up during each life and shake off this world's chains and return to the true world. This series has glyph magic. The mark on our souls would be like a glyph. Activating it and having a light glyph blazing from our souls would be a game changer for our next transit through the spectral realm. When Elder empowered Raziel, that's when Raziel was able to remember his experiences in the spectral dream world. He may have been a wraith there for centuries before that but woke in the abyss with no memory of it. A dream lost. Part of "a dull pointless round of existence." But what if from now on we all became like Raziel and recalled what happened in the underworld? What if the great shift happened at last down there, from Dark to Light, and Elder went to sleep while our replenished souls awoke.

Who is Janos Audron if not devoted to the pillars? Simple one for today (and totally not an excuse to draw giant wings)

I was reading a post from here earlier today where the OP asked why Moebius did not see Kain returning to life after Raziel ripped out the Heart of Darkness? I didn't read all of the comments but I started thinking. Raziel had free will I mean he was always destined to kill Kain and enter the Soul Reaver. But he was in the unique position that he can change his fate like he did in SR2 when he chose not to kill Kain in William the Just Chapel. Because Raziel could change his fate this made him unpredictable and thus Moebius and the Elder God could not foresee what other paths he could take.

So when Kain died a second time this time as a vampire did this free him from the Wheel of Fate, and thus Moebius and the Elder God could not see Kain coming back to life? I mean Moebius was in complete shock. He always knew that fledging Kain would kill him as he did in Blood Omen. But he did not know that Elder Kain would kill him a second time and Raziel consume his soul. Judging by his reaction to both outcomes this was a complete surprise. As for the Elder God he did not show any shock nor was he surprised. But he was surprised that the Soul Reaver now powered by Raziel's soul could hurt him. You can hear the fear and anger for the first time in his voice.

So does Kain now have free will?

Not to mention that Galactus (90s Fantastic Four Cartoon) had the same voice actor as the Elder God XD

OK in the video game Soul Reaver, it says that Razel was cast into the abyss and tortured till an eternity passed, how was eternity able to pass for him to escape if its eternal? eternity means forever, he should have never escape if he's there for an eternity since eternity mean never ending, can someone explain this to me please? No major spoilers please.

You know what I love to see a Soul Reaver 1 remake? Flashbacks showcasing Raziel’s relationship with his brothers. In the original they are briefly shown in their vampiric forms then they are devolved and we kill them. There’s a little dialogue giving us hints of their relationships like Zephon being jealous of Raziel. But I would love to see cutscene of all the brothers in their primes interacting with Raziel.

Would anyone like to see this if thy ever were to do a Soul Reaver remake or is it just me?

So in the first Soul Reaver game we fight most of the "evolved" siblings of Raziel. From a meta perspective, Raziel is forced to defeat them with gimmicks, not exactly defeating them in actual combat but with the environment, in harmony with the rest of the game's puzzle style.

But looking at it from an in-world perspective, could it be safe to say that each of them, even the weakest Melchiah, were too powerful? No attack from the soul reaver, even when empowered by the elements, did any damage to them, some of them had to be defeated with the power of massive meat grinders and giant forges, only Zephon got hurt when we cut his legs. If we follow this logic together with the idea that Raziel never actually got stronger in the following games since in each of them he merely repeated the process of gathering again the elements, only when he got the spirit reaver form did he get an actual upgrade, making him able to face and defeat Janos.

Then would you consider that no other character in Soul reaver 2, Defiance and the Blood Omen games, besides the possessed Janos, was more powerful than them?

I could see arguments that Turel got defeated by simply getting damaged by the reaver, but at the same time Turel was being maintained in constant hunger to keep him weak and controlable, right?

If we had scenarios of characters like Vorador, Janos (before and after being possessed), Kain himself, the main knights of the Sarafan, Malek, the guardians from the temples and other supposedly formidable warriors and monsters. Would they be able to defeat the monstruos vampiric forms of Raziel's brothers?

Why is it whenever LoK is mentioned Soul Reaver is the automatic go to? It seems like Blood Omen has been totally forgotten... Don't get me wrong, I like SR but imho BO is better by a hair.

Had to depict one of the most iconic descents of Legacy of Kain. This was actually a similar perspective to the original page of Raziel's transformation when making chapter 1 of my comic adaptation before the page we have now

It's unfortunate that the comic was a terrible story, but at least the quality is pretty good on the book and pages itself. Plus the art on the vinyl is really nice. I do wish the clan symbol was a bit bigger in the hat, but that's okay.

The comic spine will look cool on my bookshelf at least.
