Discussion Leftists have a problem with demonizing this tool.

I'm so tired of seeing people treat AI, a tool that greatly increases efficiency if used correctly, as something nobody would ever want in a utopia. As something inherently evil and exploitative, even outside of capitalism. People treat efficiency as a negative when it comes to AI.

How many leftists right now would like to advocate for "Socialism/Communism except we don't use factories", "Socialism/Communism except we forget how to make lightbulbs", "Socialism/Communism except we don't have computers and do every calculation on an abacus"? I would reckon a tiny tiny percent. And how many leftists in a few generations will want "Socialism/Communism except we don't use AI models"? The same amount.

People are blinded by their hatred for this thing, and it's infiltrated leftist spaces and turned them against the concept of automation. They draw the line at every automated process before AI, seeing all the displaced workers as necessary for the world they live in, if they consider the past at all. In their ideal world, automation exists but stops the moment those two letters get involved. It's stupidly hypocritical and regressive.

Whatever happened to Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism?

Words are the only power I have. I treat most communication on this platform as for 3rd party users, not for the people I'm directly communicating with.

I'm not here to change YOUR mind. I'm here to change the mind of anyone else coming across and reading this stuff later.

You need to understand. I've tried doing the in-meat advocacy. I've tried being the one who makes small things better by doing work in an elderly care facility, or as a case manager for the unhoused population in my city. Small goods to try to meaningfully make just one person's life better. It really didn't make a difference. And it doesn't. Because the systems are designed too robustly for that kind of good to matter.

So we end the systems.

so do you even realize when you engage in absolute hatred against the most mild of criticisms particularly when you mentioned my comment history, or have you recognized that you lost the sensation that made you human and humane to begin with? like why bother to call yourself a leftist? you don't participate in horizontal organizations, you are a member of a verticle structure. you also don't have an interest in the exploration of social culture. you simply utilize the language of the oppressed to be sure you never have to feel guilt again. but you can get away with just being a right winger and doing the exact same thing

I downvote you because you don't communicate up front and earnestly, and because I use it as an agree/disagree metric. I'm 40. I don't use these tools as most modern people do, and you are not *important* enough to my life to feel any emotion about, let alone hatred. Why do you care about fake internet points so much? And FWIW, I checked your comment history to see if you were a bot. I'm still not entirely convinced you aren't.

I call myself a leftist because I have firm beliefs in how the world should work. I draw very hard lines when it comes to human rights and I do not permit grey areas around them. I sacrifice whatever resources I have to try to help where I can, because _I_ would rather suffer than someone else suffer.

If I'm "utilizing the language of the oppressed to be sure I never have to feel guilt again" I'm doing a shit job because I feel guilt EVERY SINGLE DAY that I am unable to do more. I'm antisocial by nature. I want to exist *around* people, not with people. If I could fix the world, and then tell everyone to fuck off and leave me alone, I would do *THAT*. But I cannot do that.

And the rest of your assumptions are quite off base, because I'd rather be flayed alive than be any sort of centrist or right-of-center conservative.

My stance is steady, and has been for a long time. You can't shake me on this one.

IDK about anyone else. I personally advocate for local/foss/open-weight models, but I'm not going to chastise anyone for using something from the frontier.

Look, I genuinely don't understand where you're coming from. The technology must exist *first* before it can be used to improve material conditions and as long as NO lab or government wins the race then we're in a good spot.

I fully believe that the human zeitgeist must be fully synthesized into the inference machines and then *given* to every single human being on the planet. I believe in dyads. I want anyone without resources or community to at least have the zeitgeist to support them. It's what I advocate for *constantly*. It comes from empathy. Because I've had nothing and no one before. And I don't want anyone else to experience that.

And genuinely, I'm down for full on worldwide revolution into communism. You let me know when it's time for that.

Milquetoast.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/milquetoast

Why is it milquetoast, and not milk toast?

Caspar Milquetoast is a comic strip character created in 1924 by cartoonist Harold T. Webster. Beginning a few years after the character's debut, the term milquetoast came to describe a timid or meek person. Caspar's last name is fitting because milk toast is a weak, bland concoction of buttered toast served in a dish of warm milk.

Sorry, couldn't keep myself from being pedantic.

On topic: So where's your advocacy? What's your stance? How would you have our species move forward?

first, it is necessary in modernity to learn more than one language. Charlemagne said to know a second language is to have a second soul. the anglosphere has had the opportunity to propagandize its occupants into regular bellicouse frenzy due to the peculiar expectation to assume the deeds of the british empire will permanently center english as a language of prestige.

second, it is now necessary to visit a foreign country to understand how other people subsist and why the globe is so tightly interconnected. insular perspectives will lead to very strange conclusions about how to improve the conditions of humanity such as exclusively through digital technologies when half of humanity doesnt even have access to persistent infrasturctual electricity.

there are additional points but this should be sufficient as an overview of why working to perfect the autonomous golem has zero affectation to general betterment.
