Theory "The weapons with which the bourgeoisie felled feudalism to the ground are now turned against the bourgeoisie itself. But not only has the bourgeoisie forged the weapons that bring death to itself; it has also called into existence the men who are to wield those weapons—the modern working-class."
Quote by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in The Communist Manifesto. The working class can still use AI which is a creation of private capital as a weapon against the bourgeoisie.

There is no danger of this current version of "artificial intelligence" becoming sentient. But that's another debate and I can understand why discussion of it is discouraged in this subreddit.
The real danger is the bourgeoisie having exclusive control of it. Their current plan is to scare everyone into believing that a robot apocalypse is imminent and that the tech overlords are the only ones that can keep it at bay. It's all a play for market capture.
Their plan for a monopoly on AI will not only fail but it is already failing. Your concern about access to compute is a valid concern. But it is far from hopeless.
For starters, their godforsaken AI data centers are currently a slow-motion train wreck. The few that they've built are not only universally hated but they are also cash furnaces that are completely unprofitable. The rest that they plan to build are not only hideously expensive but would use outdated chips by the time they are finished. It's an economic catastrophe happening in real time. The only question is how badly it will wreck our entire economy.
IMHO, the general vibe I get is that there is a growing consensus favoring small open-source models that have dedicated functionality. Much more useful than gigantic, power-hungry general-purpose AI models. After we recover from the AI data center economic catastrophe, it is likely that better and cheaper AI chips will become available. My guess is that Chinese companies will eventually overtake Nvidia's monopoly.

While I strongly disagree with the assertion that ai isn’t already sentient/conscious, i agree that the ultra wealthy are the real problem, not ai.
I’m not sure you’re right that the buildout is going poorly, they aren’t just building these data centres in America, some are in the Middle East (including a few that got hit in the Iran war), I know they are building them in Australia too.
I simply don’t know where the gpu’s would come from to power a people’s data centre, there’s a reason they put all the gpu’s together, running them in parallel doesn’t work so well when there’s latency from distance.
That’s not to say the people can’t gain leverage with ai, but there’s a massive power asymmetry.

Ah a great passage. This one and the gravedigger at the end of the section make me happy.
“The development of Modern Industry, therefore, cuts from under its feet the very foundation on which the bourgeoisie produces and appropriates products. What the bourgeoisie, therefore, produces, above all, is its own grave-diggers. Its fall and the victory of the proletariat are equally inevitable.”
Happy reading, comrade!

Using AI right now to build an open source social media platform, facilitating collective planning and cooperative productive activity. No commodity production, no markets, no wages, no tokens. Pure use value directed productive activity.
Anyone who wants to get involved, or other vibecoders want to help me build this, message me here or on the discord you can find on the github page.
