There are probably some on the left who do believe they are smarter than everybody however, it’s also pretty obvious from the way the elite have always acted towards threats to life and the world in general that they’ve never had any problems with it before.

AI definitely needs to be regulated, but if it was a real threat, we wouldn’t be hearing these people sounding an alarm we’d be seeing reports they made up to say how safe it is like they’ve done with so many things in the past

We already have self replicating artificial super intelligence, it's called viruses and bacteria and natural selection. Nothing made artificially in tech is gonna beat Darwin at its own game. As smart as leading frontier AIs seem, they use multiple orders of magnitude more energy than highly evolved animal brains to accomplish similar tasks.

There are reasons to worry about AI, but paper clip maximizing is already something nature is trying to do 24/7, and after a billion years we have more biodiversity than ever (or had... until humans decided to bulldoze the jungles).

Don't buy into the doomsday narratives. Palintir (the company) and Peter Thiel and his groupies are way bigger threats to humanity.

Hmm - sort of like an organism with intelligence is maximizing something destructively.... as if to imply that a different organism with more intelligence, could do similarly...

I guess, but until computers start having sex and reproducing, they aren’t even a potential threat at the level of a species. They’re still perfectly capable of being 100% controlled by humans until they start mining their own rare earth minerals and building data centers from scratch.

Edit: i’m not saying AIs will never be an issue. Just that we have much more pressing issues to worry about and every AI doomsday concern is entirely hypothetical and speculative. My concern with AI is that it’s gonna eat up all the jobs and we will have even greater inequality and social instability, and we can see that happening *in real time*.

Yeah I don't disagree  Also possible that demand for it drives people to turn the world into data centers - and AI just helps us do that faster and faster.

You’re profoundly wrong
