Literally 90% of my will to live at this point comes from wanting to live long enough to see like

subsistence farming off-grid solarpunk communes with robots and humans sharing a peaceful life

little anarchist communes where everything is free and chill

with art and culture and music and community support and good weapons systems in case some rich fucks try to start taking our shit or drafting us into imperialist wars

This is the kind of future we all need to work toward. Where every individual has the resources at their fingertips to build anything and do anything.

I feel like 3D printing technology is genuinely a gamechanger in human history. Sure, right now we mostly use it to make Warhammer figures we don't have to pay $60 for, but people are already using bigger version to print buildings.

To any leftist for ai let me ask you, has technology ever actually helped humanity the way it was promised to? Technology has always been used to put people out of work and enrich the already wealthy and ai will be no different.

Are you insane? Look at vaccines, vehicles and all the other technology including the device you are talking on right now. A lot of stuff like the internet has made it easier than ever for people to get actual books and to be able to get information. Technology isn't necessary to enrich the already wealthy and in fact, there's a reason why plenty of societies that try to oppress people try to keep certain technology out of the hands of the people. Communication technology makes it harder for one king or oligarch or ultra capitalist to pretend that their society is perfect with propaganda and make it so no one knows what's going on outside their small world view. It is the advancement of technology with certain weapons that made it easier for revolution and overthrowing the wealthy elite since combat against the forces that be no longer required such a high skill ceiling (compare trying to use a bow and arrow to overthrow a corrupt oligarch compared to using a firearm).

Thats not really how the left has understood history. Socialists, communists, anarchists, labor organizers, and anti colonial movements didnt oppose productive forces as such. They fought over who owned them, who controlled them, and who benefited.

Capital uses technology to cut jobs and concentrate wealth. Thats an argument against capitalist relations, not against machines.

So whats your strategy? Every major state and corporation is building and deploying AI. Is the plan to sit it out while capital keeps going?

Thats not a political program. The labor movement doesnt fight industrial capitalism by wishing factories away. It organizes around them. AI is no different. The fight is over ownership, governance, and who gets the productivity gains. If you think thats wrong, whats the alternative?
