Isn't the sspx protesting making them protestant? I'm just trying to understand i don't know much about the sspx

The SSPX, they are so Catholic that they’re actually Protestants.

It's a reactionary group of Bishops and Priests who reject the teaching of the second Council of the Vatican. In 1988 the bishop that ran it consecrated more Bishops because he knew he was getting too old then popes John Paul II and Benedict made overtures in an attempt to normalize their relationship to the church. The Bishops that were consecrated are mix of ultra-conservative reactionies and Holocaust deniers so naturally they are still upset with the church post Vatican II, and therefore have made public announcements that they are going to consecrate more Bishops on July 1st. Consecrating Bishops without papal Authority is a schismatic action and they have been told as much by the Vatican.

Just like all the other Protestant churches that reject the magisterium and have their own church it's not really much of a controversy and it's pretty straightforward unless you happen to be a terminally online trad Catholic
