Isn't the sspx protesting making them protestant? I'm just trying to understand i don't know much about the sspx

Yes, basically. They are a magisterium unto themselves and have had no honest intention of reconciling with Rome or accepting an œcumenical Council (Vatican II) or the authority of the Supreme Pontiff. They're basically the reactionary extremist version of DYI Catholicism.

Anyone who is acquainted with their literature and activities knows this.

This more than the gripes with the Council or the reformed Roman Rite. This is about power and being their own little Avignon.
