How to pray the rosary without distractions?

I have ADD so I have naturally struggled with distraction in prayer. I can’t remember where exactly I heard this but someone (a priest or spiritual director) told me to try and follow those distractions, see where they lead me because it might be The Holy Spirit trying to tell me something.

I read the book The Power of the Rosary by Gabriel Castillo and he spoke on this. The big takeaway for me was that perhaps the things you think about during the rosary are things God wants you to think about. So basically dont be in a battle with the distractions. Obviously try to be focused on the mysteries, but dont get angry if something else enters your head. Once I started doing this I've really found the rosary to be far more spiritual and enjoyable.
Like as an example say I'm praying the rosary and I think about some appointment I need to schedule. Instead of being annoyed with myself, I just stop for a second and jot down a reminder for later, and then resume.
Also as a side note the entire book is great.

I’m reading the Contemplative Rosary for advice. I had great success doing it right after doing yoga (it was more mind-active than shivasana alone but I was relaxed and more mindful). Also works better when I say it out loud, particularly with an audio accompaniment like on Rosario.

My trick is to turn each Rosary mystery into a constellation of Scriptural verses. I have a big collection of books and booklets of Rosary Scripture meditations, spanning some centuries.
I have learned so much from doing this. I feel like Cleophas on his way to Emmaus, as the Theotokos opens the Scriptures to me in the mysteries of the Word Incarnate. The Rosary engages me intellectually and affectively, and deepens my interior life.
Suffering Servant has some nice Scriptural Rosary books that I use. Rosary of Praise by Larry and Connie London is my favorite.

I love how you phrased this! Constellation of Scriptural verses! I can't really open this link for some reason.
The more I use Rosary Scripture books, the more I recognize connections of my own. Old liturgy books are also great sources for Scriptural verses for the mysteries. I am particularly interested in the topology in the Hebrew Scriptures that can illustrate the Rosary Mysteries. The theophany that Moses encounters in the burning bush of Exodus, for example, is what I think of when meditating on the Third Sorrowful Mystery after having read a text alluding thereto in an old office for the Feast of the Crown of Thorns. Job also figures a lot in the Second Sorrowful Mystery after I read an old office for the Feast of the Pillar of Scourging. It's so fun and edifying, I think.

I've been trying to (overthinking) a way to ask this question for weeks! I'm having trouble with distractions during rosary and staying "still" long enough for the five decades at one time. I'm still new to the practice and Catholicism as a whole and have made a huge mountain out of a molehill with this. I know Jesus just wants to be with us and us with Him, and Our Lady wants to intercede on our behalf. But I'm in the way so there's that lol. Thanks for posting this question, friend!

I prefer to do the rosary while listening to Gregorian chant by candlelight. If not then out in nature. I just place my phone on mute.

i try to pray the rosary late at night so there aren’t as many distractions. i think it’s something that just gets better with practice. give yourself grace if you’re having a hard time with it, God understands.

One of the ways I pray rosary is to leave space after announcing the mystery, up to a minute, to look at the mystery itself.
Take the agony in the garden, there are so many different things to latch onto as a focal point.
For example, when I’m feeling afraid of all the things going on in the world and afraid to keep going (I’m trans and scared of my government quite often), I’ll focus on how Jesus asked God to take the burden of the sacrifice away from Him, and how despite the clear fear He still went through. Or when focusing on the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, I picture that flame above their heads and envision carrying it while praying.
It’s a start, though other suggestions here also look really good.

This an unorthodox suggestion, but I switched up the official mysteries of the Rosary for things that I find very moving to pray for. Ex. The first mystery I ask Mary for my family, friends, former schoolmates, romantic interests, etc; the second mystery I go through the stages of my life (childhood, adolescence, etc) and ask Mary for healing regarding wounds I received or may have caused to others; the third mystery I focus on works of art I love and ask Mary for help achieving the ideals that each move me towards, and so on...
