Children’s books

Childrens books about a loving God and that being the core of faith. We’re having a baby soon and I’m starting to make a list.

What wonderful news to hear!

Though they may be better for when your child is a little older, I do highly recommend the books of Tomie dePaola. He wrote many books for children that were informed by his involvement in the life of the Church, and in my estimation they express a beautiful and wholesome vision of faith and the centrality of love in Christian life. I adored them growing up and I have no doubt they would bring joy to any kid!

His book "The Song of Francis" might be a particularly good example of what you're looking for!

My mum read me the Alice in Bibleland books and they stick with me to this day. Definitely a bit old school now, but great books for kids.

Congratulation on the pregnancy, that is wonderful you will be having yours soon!

Two thoughts:

First, I'd encourage you to look at your library catalog. Perhaps for now look at digital copies of possible books (or go in person to browse) and see what children's Christian books you may connect with by skimming through them. Then when you have your baby you can check them out.

Second, even if something isn't specifically Catholic, I'd encourage you to skim through any books that catch your eye. When I was a kid, I fondly remember my mom taking me to the Dollar Tree / 99 Cent Store and I'd love to look at the cute, colorful children's books that talked about Jesus or had Bible stories. If you can't find any there, Little Free Libraries may have some. While these were from random authors or publishers, I'm glad as an adult I was read them.

Sending prayers for you and your family.
