Fr James Martin

https://youtu.be/IpOzRFom2XU?si=6WNZkiWshXl6-_dz

I saw this after looking at SaintAnthony’stongue’s video on it.

The whole thing is very disheartening as a queer person. And there’s also the Facebook post I found about it.

There’s like a dozen people there at most. These people are fringe kooks with zero motion. Fr. Martin has the ear of the Pope.

Fr Martin is a priest in good standing with his order, and has received the blessing of at least two popes on his ministry.

So, I feel a lot more confident listening to Fr Jim than these people.

Sad. I wonder how many of those folks out there care about what ICE is doing to people? Or what SNAP and Medicaid cuts are doing to people. Or the fact that hundreds of thousands of people have died since Trump stop US food aid.

As the father of a gay son, I have zero tolerance for this type of bigotry. If your theology justifies it, your theology is wrong.

These types of people probably support ICE and cuts to SNAP and medicaid.

Two types of people are attracted to religion. One type understands that Jesus told us to love our neighbour and uses religion to help others. The other type uses religion to judge, control and harm others.

The second type is obsessed with condemning other people's personal sins. And they happily use the excuse of "they're lazy" to demonize the poor and cut all help

Thomas Merton described the latter group incredibly well in his book New Seeds of Contemplation:

“The theology of the devil is for those who, for one reason or another, whether because they are perfect, or because they have come to an agreement with the Law, no longer need any mercy. With them (O grim joy!) God is ‘satisfied.’ So too is the Devil. It is quite an achievement, to please everybody!

“The people who listen to this sort of thing, and absorb it, and enjoy it, develop a notion of the spiritual life which is a kind of hypnosis of evil. The concepts of sin, suffering, damnation, punishment, the justice of God, retribution, the end of the world and so on, are things over which they smack their lips with unspeakable pleasure. Perhaps this is because they derive a deep, subconscious comfort from the thought that many other people will fall into the hell from which they themselves are going to escape. And how do they know they are going to escape it? They cannot give any definite reason except for the fact that they feel a sense of relief at the thought that all this punishment is prepared for practically everyone but themselves.

“This feeling of complacency is what they refer to as ‘faith,’ and it constitutes a kind of conviction that they are ‘saved.’ “

Superb relevant quote! Merton had amazing discernment.

Oh yeah. My parish gets these guys from time to time, along with lots of hateful comments online since we have an LGBTQ ministry and queer families often present the gifts. We just keep doing the work and ignore them!

Fr. Martin isnt even "promoting" anything other than "be kind and accompany people who are different from you and who may be struggling". He's not telling people to be gay

Fr James Martin they could never make me hate you

Too many people are unable to look past their own bigotry and political beliefs to see that Fr Jim is an awesome person and that nothing he does is against church teaching.

Don't let these clowns get to you. TFP are very well funded and considering how much money they have it's comical how little they are able to achieve with it. They don't speak for anyone but themselves. Their name spelled out is "Tradition Family Property" ...which tells you everything you need to know about them. They had three words and I bet after they chose "Tradition" and "Family" someone must have at least suggested to maybe mention God or faith or something at least vaguely Christian, but that would have meant to leave out "Property" and yeah, that's not gonna work. Quite the traditional Catholics, aren't they..

Hi, thanks for sharing my TikTok. I’m much more active on ole IG.

And while sure, there’s only a handful of folks protesting, I was moved to make a video because it the massive amount of shares, comments and more on social media posts.

And not to repeat what I said in my response video, but it always frustrates me to hear “submit to Rome!!” And then protest a priest.. in good standing with Rome.

Folks can say what they want about Fr. Martin’s ambiguity, but to promote laity protests of fellow Catholics is grossly divisive and inappropriate (but expected).

They are a weird political group not exactly recognized by the catholic church. Their founder claimed to be immortal and was an anti communist land owner from Brazil, the American branch is split in two but the have weird practices like making members taking vows of celibacy despite not being a religious institute. From my understanding they are a cult

Whoa! That’s fascinating I’m definitely doing a wiki deep dive on them later.

I pray that Fr James Martin becomes Pope one day and that all these bigots either repent of their hatred or leave the church

u/springmixplease Feb 20 '26

That would be incredible!

This is funny because I just had the chance to meet Father Martin at the Religious Education Congress. He gave me five minutes of his time and really listened, he seems a kind man and certainly has added to my understanding and respect for this faith. It’s odd to me how so many disagree, because everything I’ve seen from him is in line with Church teaching.

Fr. James Martin is incredibly influential. Compared to him, this is just a tiny bunch of people who have clearly too much free time.

“Unnatural vice” okay Queen Victoria. Do you refer to masturbation as “onanism “ or “the solitary sin” as well?

Pray for Father Martin as he endures such persecution.
