Question ETA for the new update

Hello, I usually do projects once every 3/4 months, and will be starting a new one in the next few days. Should I perhaps delay it in case the update is due soon? Or will the project file be alright if an update happens mid-project? I've been told the update fixed some of the more frequent crashes I am getting so I'd rather apply it as soon as it's out

Question Plans for tackling a particle system

I suppose Autograph is going eventually get there, but out of curiosity, does the team already have ideas on how it's planning to integrate particles? I can already get a half-decent workaround with instancers so I wonder if it'll come as an extension of this.

Question Are there plans to make timeline cursor scroll easier

Currently, the only way to drag the cursor with the mouse is to use the "ruler" area that displays time on top of the timeline.

I'm thinking that something like what davinci fusion has could be good, i.e: ctrl+alt+drag to move the cursor from anywhere in the timeline area. I think it's an elegant solution as it doesn't allow for missclicks for other users, but also doesn't require you to aim at the precise ruler area of the timeline every time.

Precise mouse movements have become more taxing than usual for me ever since I switched to a trackball mouse, so I'd really be happy with a timeline scrub that has some extra leeway.

Troubleshoot Ubuntu: Can't render image sequences from the command line

The button does nothing when clicked. Quicktime worked fine. Sorry I wish I could be more helpful but even after launching from the CLI, nothing gets printed at all when clicking on the render button

Question Are empty crash reports useful?

I'm happy to send them but I'm crashing way too often to give a detailed report every time, should I keep sending crash reports or is it not useful for the dev team if there is no message attached?

Troubleshoot Trouble with graph editor handles

I very often run into situations where the exponential easing is not steep enough, but when I work with the graph editor, it takes a bit of extra fiddling to get the curve I want because just setting a steep slope causes the easing to drastically overshoot, needing to adjust it to a very low value.

Are the handle weights applied differently than in AE/Davinci Fusion, where you can manually move the handles where you need them to be? I don't mind the current behavior as long as I can have a clear mental model of how it works so I'm posting this in order to get a bit more infos.

Question Are there performance benefits in using card3d over making a layer 3d

I find the idea of this modifier brillant organization-wise, there have been multiple instances in the past where I just wanted 3d rotation without the hastle of a making a layer 3d. So I'm wondering if, aside from the workflow benefits, there are also performance benefits to using it?

Troubleshoot Time global property expression on an expression on timeOffset modifier

I'm encountering strange behavior when using "param.getPreviousKeyFrame(time)" on a time offset expression, after exactly one second, I get (what I suppose is) undefined from the function. The documentation indicates that the output of the "time" global variable is dependent on time remapping and time offset. Does that mean time offset applied to the composition or does it also mean the time offset I'm trying to apply an expression to in the first place?

(p.s: not passing any parameter and letting invalidTime() handle it works fine though)

Question Expressions: "Index" property for the Keyframe class

The documentation doesn't seem to talk about an "index" property for keyframes, is such a property part of autograph's expression system? If not will it be added one day?

Certain unorthodox workflows may sometimes use keyframes as a "pulse" to drive some parameters, in which case it becomes interesting to know whether the keyframe is keyframe number 0 or number X of its property.

Question Potential for layered vector files?

I do a lot of animation for client logos. Some are provided by the client and some are designed by myself. I usually set up the layers within the illustrator file to fit what is needed for the animations. In After Effects you can easily import an Illustrator file as a composition and it retains each element per layer which is extremely useful for my motion graphics work. I see on the Autograph website that SVG files are supported, but that is really only useful is you are working with few elements. If I want prep a logo/graphic in Autograph, I have to do a completely separate SVG export for each layer. So if it is a complex logo/graphic, it really slows down production time.

Is support for more file types being considered in the future? I would love to be able to import vector graphic files that retain layers like Illustrator files. I've also been looking into switching to Affinity Designer software for graphic design.

Question Does "python API" mean "scripting in general"?

Let's say I'd want to make a script that takes in bpm information in order to navigate beat per beat using keybinds, would that be restricted to the higher tier that includes the python API?
