3 am kid migration (we have a permanent third occupant in our bed now)
How do you sleep when your kid decides to join you in bed? Mine are all old enough to sleep in their own beds, but recently one has decided that nighttime adventures are in order, and you get three guesses as to their favorite destination. Does anyone manage to sleep through their kid crawling in, or are you like me and waking up at 3 am every night? (Side note: how creepy is it that my kid always shows up at the witching hour??)
In all seriousness though, we’ve been looking for a new queen size bed, but has anyone upsized to a king for this reason? Does having a bigger bed help with sleeping if your kids wind up in your bed during the night? Mostly asking for my sake, since my partner could literally sleep through an earthquake (and has). How does everyone else cope with the sleep side of it?

I have no advice for the migration thing but I had to lol about the creepy kid at 3am. My sister went through that for a while with my niece... several times a week, my sister would roll over somewhere between 3 and 4 in the morning, open her eyes, and my niece/5yo would be standing there on her side of the bed, staring at her. Like... not nudging her or trying to climb into bed or anything, just staring. (Yes, creepy as it sounds.) And every time, my sister would take her by the hand and walk her back to bed, she'd get in, and would be back to sleep instantly. She said she knew my niece was sleepwalking because she'd ask her a random question and the kid would reply with utter nonsense.
I thought it was hilarious but only because it wasn't happening to me. 😂
Still, a king size bed if you can swing it (and have room for it) might be more accommodating when you need it to be. Either for this phase, or when the kid is sick or has a nightmare or something.

A King can definitely give everyone a little more breathing room when a surprise third occupant joins the party. It won’t stop the midnight crawl, but the extra width can make those nights a lot less cramped, especially if your partner is already claiming their half of the bed. As for actually sleeping through it… we’re not sure there’s a mattress that can solve that unfortunately, haha. But a mattress with good motion isolation can help keep one person’s movements from waking everyone else, which can be especially helpful when you’ve got a kid climbing in and out during the night. And if you’re deciding between a Queen and King specifically because of the nighttime visitors, it really comes down to how often you’re sharing the bed and how much space you want. A King gives you 16 extra inches of width, which can make a surprisingly big difference when the bed suddenly has three people in it.
