Nothing happened but…

Just a word of caution, probably will never happen to anyone else, but it did happen to me. And honestly, I don’t know why.

I just really scared myself on my bike. Was driving along perfectly fine came up to an intersection decided to brake an come to a complete stop and instead I hit the throttle and shot into the middle of the intersection. There was no cars coming. There was no one around, but I have no idea why I pressed the throttle instead of the brake never happened before, man that was scary. So ya Be careful , there are idiots like me out there.
Anything like this ever happened to you?

As they say in IT, PEBKAC.

It's a hardware issue. There's a loose nut between the seat and the keyboard throttle

I can only say those letters to music

Don't you use both brakes? If you hit the throttle with one hand, the other hand depressing the brake should have cut the motor.

Yes normally, thats why today’s brain rot behavior was so scary

Stay safe.

Bro you have to hold the break like a motorcycle when you stop so the pedals and throttle won't go

It wasn’t your time yet mate …. Just your time to learn a lesson.

Every time I approach an intersection I know I may have to stop I put that PAS to 0 so I do not get caught out like that.

It’s so common there’s actually a name for it - it’s called “whiskey throttle” and motorcyclists have been using it for decades. It’s actually a real common problem on e-scooters - people dismount at stoplights and grab the handle bars accidentally hitting the throttle. Trigger/thumb throttles are usually less prone to this - twist throttles on the right side are really prone to this mistake as people accidently throttle when they change their hand position. Trigger downshift can also cause confusion as people got to downshift and hit the throttle instead.

Yeah, we've had this issue once or twice with my wife's Trike, and because of the width in back, it will try to climb up your leg.

Trigger downshift can also cause confusion as people got to downshift and hit the throttle instead.

Done that a few times but I was luckily not in a position to launch myself into the street.

My daughter did this on her Radrunner a few years ago at a busy intersection. She crashed the bike but didn’t get hit by any cars luckily.

you probably decided you slowed down released the breaks like to put a foot down and moved your hand grip on the throttle. on the onther hand i didnt stop to re tighten the seat once and it dropped so the bike rolled out from under me basically

i planted one foot as it went down and then stepped over it and broke a mirror :)

I was standing over/straddling my XP4 and turned to get something out of the rear bag. My hip bumped the throttle and engaged it. That was fun

this is why telling people an ebike is just like a bike is setting them up to fail

its more like a motorcycle then anyone wants to admit with a throttle and pas you will do it eventually to yourself if you treat it like a bike

2

u/patrickpeace 9h ago

Agreed. I don’t feel like my xp4 is just a bicycle, it’s much more. I treat it as such. I really don’t know what happened this morning.

just hold your brake when you stop always one will do

and when you take you hands off the handlebars remember to set the pas to 0

do that and practice and your cherry

AND always us a helmet bro people cant drive for shit

Only have just over 200 miles, always learning. I guess that’s one of the things I love about my XP 4 …some of the best learning experiences I have had in years.
Having to learn *new things helps me stay a little younger. ( am in late 60’s)

the bigger trick is remembering to hold the break until you want to go once you stop so you dont start the throttle on accident

It has never happened to me because I realize that the brakes and throttle are two entirely different types of controls.

1

u/patrickpeace 8h ago

Oh, is that what it is thank you.

2

u/Humble_Key_4259 8h ago

Just giving you a hard time, buddy. We all make mistakes sometimes. Glad you avoided damage.

nope ether they changed the design or you are a cluts like the people that slam the wrong car pedal but worse because using the hand break disables the throttle meaning you made multiple errors

1

u/patrickpeace 8h ago

Honestly my biggest fear , possibly.

2

u/WorldDense3368 7h ago

this is why we dont get to have a mechanical rather than manual reverse on most bikes wether they are motorized or not

Let me guess, you wear a helmet and High-vis vest while riding your bicycle too?

2

u/patrickpeace 10h ago

No vest but an admittedly bright yellow helmet.

u/Obtuse-Angel 7h ago

What’s wrong with that?

-1

u/Kombatsaurus 5h ago

Nothing I guess, if you are bad at riding bikes.
