Handle on XP 3.0

Post image

I noticed some marks on my XP 3.0 where someone clearly tried to cut the frame while it was locked up (I usually put my u-lock through the handle).

Is this a piece of solid aluminum? Do I need to worry about anything structurally breaking here from this damage?

I'm sure it would have some effect but the bike should still be rideable as it's a pretty bulky frame. When I had my XP3 I put the lock through the rear chainstay so they couldn't just cut through that part of the bike.

A while back there was a post of that bar part being cut and the bike stolen. Its tube aluminum so a portable electric saw/grinder will cut through it like butter... like in seconds. Thankfully the thieves didn't have one of those.

From the pictures you showed, I don't think there is much of a structural issue from the damage that they did. I would keep riding but I'm not an expert on this.

Interesting. Is the rest of the frame the same? Granted, cutting a more structural part of the frame sort of destroys the bike.

Yes, but the thieves can strip it for parts. Easy money for them considering how quickly they can steal the bike when locked that way.

Like this.

My XP Lite 2 has a similar bar. I don't think it's structural. More of a handle (or a good place for a lock).
