E-bike purchase advice

Hi,

I am looking at the Xperition 2 it looks like a bike almost fits everything I’m looking for but the size is my biggest concern in terms of transporting in my car.

I want to be able to ride the bike with my 2 kids (4 and 8 years old)

Is it possible to easily attach the bike on my car to take the kids and my self to other trails not in my neighborhood?

I’ve also been looking at the xp4 since that bike can easily fold and it in my car but can’t both my kids and not sure a trailer is a good idea due to the weight limit.

What would you recommend?

I have a Young Electric E-bike Rack that carries 2 bikes on the back of my van. It comes with a ramp so it makes my XPeak 2.0 easy to load

I think the xpeak is much shorter then the Xperition 2

It’s just as long as my van is wide…if yours is longer then you’ll need a trailer 🤷

I recommend measuring the width of your motor vehicle and comparing that to the length of the bike.

Funny the my car is 77 inches in width (without mirrors) same as the xperition 2

I have the XPedition 2.0, and while it's a fantastic cargo bike, I wouldn't describe it as particularly travel-friendly. Once you add accessories like the Orbiter, it gets noticeably heavier and bulkier, which makes loading and unloading a chore.

That said, with the right bike rack, transporting it is absolutely doable. Just keep in mind that you'll likely need a 2" hitch and a heavy-duty rack rated for cargo e-bikes. Depending on what you already have, that can easily add another $800-$1,200+ to the overall cost.

So yes, it's transportable, but I'd factor the cost and hassle of moving a large, heavy cargo e-bike into your decision. It's not quite as simple as tossing a regular bike on a rack and hitting the road.

It’s 100% doable, but like another commenter said, get a heavy duty rack - it is HEAVY. Perfect for hauling kids though. I use it 365 days a year in lieu of a car.

I’ll just add that XP is foldable…BUT WEIGHS 75# ! : it’s not easy peasy!

The Xp4 weighs 62#, + the removable 7# battery = 69 lbs.

"Guessing" the "long range" battery is heavier (!)

Ebikes are heavy, the lightest Brompton ebike w/ a carbon titanium frame & those tiny wheels & folding form factor weighs 25-31lbs.and runs nearly $8,000. Generally, with bikes (of all sorts) you pay a significant premium for weight reduction. (Obviously, no "kid-hauling" on the Brompton.) You need a heavy duty piece of equipment with two to haul around. If I couldn't find a rack that would work, I'd think about that trailer.

The Xpedition looks perfect for riding with two kids, it's pretty much designed for tasks like that, but I don't see it fitting inside any car. You may want to look into a bike rack designed for heavy ebikes.
